1 MANY SCHOLARSHIPS Marist Graduating Class Members Pile Up Honors Cadet Captain Robert Dennis Withers, the son of Mrs, C. D, Carley and a member of Christ the King Parish, has been awarded the American Legion Scholarship. He plans to at tend Notre Dame University in September. At Boys'State sum mer, He was elected Governor of Boys' State. At Marist, Den nis has been President of the Senior Class, Vice-president of the Junior , Editor of the BLUE AND GOLD, a member of the Sodality, and of the Varsity Football and Track Teams. ional Merit Board and was a member of the French Club and Dramatics Guild. Other scholarships were won by William Reitmeier, William Authey, and Vance Arnold. Cadet 1st Lieutenant Joseph Paul McCloskey, son of Mr, and Mrs. John Francis Mc Closkey and a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, has received a scholarship from the Greater Atlanta Georgia Tech Club to attend Georgia Institute of Technology. As a student at Marist, he has been associated with the Yearbook, Dramatics Guild, Sodality, Spanish Club and a member of the Varsity Baseball Team. plans. H e is also the holder of the Southern and Southeastern Championship Title in diving. This year he was named High School All-American Diver. Cadet Lieutenant Colonel Robert Troutman Bockman, son of Mr. and Mrs, Thomas Vaughan Bockman and a mem ber of Christ the King Pariih, was awarded an Honorary Scholarship by Vanderbilt Uni versity. He will, however, at tend Georgetown University. LT. Colonel Bockman was a National Merit Finalist, Trea surer of the Spanish Club and Sodality, a member of the Dramatics Guild and Sports’ Editor of the BLUE ANDGOLD. Cadet First Lieutenant Bryan Lawrence Starr, son of Mr. and Mrs. David Homer Starr and a member of Christ the King Parish, has been awarded a scholarship by the University of the South and a "Grant - in - aid" by the Uni versity of Georgia. He is still undecided about his future Cadet First Lieutenant Ben jamin Patrick Waldron, son of Mr. and Mrs. Benjamin Franklin Waldron and a mem ber of St. Anthony's Parish, has been awarded a Atlanta Federal Saving & Loan Scho larship to attend the University of Georgia. During the time that Mr. Waldron has been at Marist, he has been a mem ber of the Dramatics Guild, the National Railway Historical Society and the French Club. He will attend the University of Georgia. School Relocated Lieutenant David Raymond Govus, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Govus and a member of Our Lady of the Assumption Parish, has been granted a Founder's Scholarship by Vanderbilt University and a Grant-in-aid for golf by the University of Florida. He will attend the University of Florida. This year Lieutenant Govus was a National Merit Finalist, As sistant Editor of the BLUE AND GOLD, Assistant Editor of the Literary Magazine, and a mem ber of the Golf and Varsity Foot ball Teams. The Archdiocesan Day School for Exceptional Children, known as Our Lady’s Day School, will expand its facilities beginning September 1964. The Day School will occupy new quarters at 631 Harwell Road, N. W. As of September, 1964, the Day School will be staffed by two full-time teachers and four part-time teachers. The Special Education Department by means of this ex pansion hopes to provide greater opportunities for the "Special Little Ones " "of the Archdiocese. PARIS(NC)— The 800th - birthday of Notre Dame cathe dral was celebrated with five days of splendor in which Pre sident Chares de Gaulle par ticipated in both the opening and closing Masses sung by the personal representative of Pope Paul VI. Paolo Cardinal Marella, a former Apostolic Nuncio to France, came from Rome as Papal Legate for the centenary. The celebration was actually a year late. It had been planned for 1963. ST.
