Judge Wood noted that only
three of 15,000 men registered
by the draft board involved
were given C. O. classifica
tions. He said he imposed the
fine because Mr. Hammond
could have afforded private
counsel but relied on a court-
appointed attorney instead.
Assistant U. S. Attorney Mer-
na B. Marshall had told the trial
jury that Mr. Hammond "was
able to work at the Philco-Ford
plant, which had many govern
ment contracts" and "was
riding around in his Mustang
while others were serving their
country."

Letters To The Editor
Editor:
Amid all the confusions which
are touching the hearts and
homes of most Catholics today,
there are many viewpoints put
before our minds. People are
running here to this lecture,
there to another lecture and
still, I gather from their con
versation, they are still con
fused.
there is confusion all around
us it will not affect our inward
peace.
"Be still and know that I am
God" was His advice to us, but
rather than do this we oftenhad
rather tell people all we know
rather than wait and let the Lord
speak to us.

"Be still and know I am the
Lord" were the words which
meant so much to me at first.
If we are forever talking and
running to and fro how are we
to hear God when He speaks
to us? Pray to God for wisdom
to do His will. He tells us to
live, pray to Him to fill your
hearts with love and if we do
love God, we will love our fel-
lowman. If we love our fellow-
in an we will do good to our
fellowman.
Please lay aside some of the
books you have been reading
and read the Bible. God keeps
every promise He makes to us.
I’ve found in my life that if I let
Him take command everything
goes along very well. Even if
