Outlets For Talents
The purpose of this

leaders in the affiliated parishes
with the magy ways in which the
Archdiocesan Council of Catholic
Women can be of service. “It is
therefore hoped that not only
will each president attend, but

chairmen make every effort to
attend also,” said Mrs. Donald
Thompson of Holy Cross Parish,
general chairman. She said

Modern women as a group are

daily life, but they need outlets
for their creative talents, said
Miss Mary Julia Hogan, executive
secretary of Catholic Family
Services.
Miss Hogan was guest speaker
at the quarterly meeting of the
Northeast Deanery at Our Lady
of the Assumption parish last
week. Outlining the role of
Catholic women today, she said,
“Woman’s contribution to
society depends upon her state in
life. As a wife and mother
responsibility first lies with her
family. Here we know the
demands are great. What choices
are available to her in terms of her
own well being?”

deeply it becomes enfleshed in
your life depends the future
effectiveness of your personal
witness to Christ in the new life
that lies before you,” declared
the executive director of the

The Jesuit warned the

in-service training and
well-organized programs is one of
the most satisfactory activities
for a woman. Miss Hogan said,
“Then the volunteer is prepared
in part, for problems which arise
and has someone available in a
guiding and supportive role....”
Discussing the role of Catholic
women in the professions, Miss
Hogan described teaching as one
of the most trying professions.
“The teacher is faced by the
results of a lack of control in the
home and society... So the
teacher needs to rely on her inner
supplies and Christian
principles.”
“Tranquility and peace should
be the hallmark of the Christian
home,” Miss Hogan said. “What
can be the special contribution of
the Catholic woman? Perhaps
basic is living a purposeful life in
line with one’s responsibilities
whether it be marriage or a
career. It is marked by the ability
to reach out to those in need
with an awareness that to give is
not to receive in return...”
Patience, fortitude, hope and a
spirit of Christian commitment
are also qualities necessary for
the Catholic woman today.
