250 Attend Festivities At Center
The Catholic Center at the
University of Georgia held its
first annual baccalaureate Mass
Saturday. The Catholic graduates,
their families and friends and
Catholic faculty members were
invited to the Mass and luncheon.
About 250 persons attended.
Father Robert McCown S.J.
of Spring Hill College, Mobile,
delivered the baccalaureate
sermon to the 146 Catholic
graduates.
Concelebrating the Mass were
Father McCown; Father Christian
Malone O.F.M., Catholic
chaplain; Father Cronan Kelly
O.F.M., assistant provincial of the

Father Neil O’Connell O.F.M.,
chaplain and a graduate student
at the University of Georgia,
served as master of ceremonies.
Students Denis Daly, Neal Evans
and Nick Minden were servers
and readers.
Music was provided by the
center choir under the direction
of Dr. Daniel Politoske of the
university’s music faculty. The
processional and recessional were
played by trumpeter Ron Makula
of the Naval Supply School.
Dr. John E. Rivers and Dr.
David Foley served as chairmen
of the baccalaureate festivities.
Mrs. Mallon
ACCW Head
Mrs. Herb Mallon, a member
of Immaculate Heart of Mary
parish, has been elected as
president of the Archdiocesan
Council of Catholic Women.
She was elected at a recent
meeting of the board of directors
and will be installed with the
other officers at the ACCW’s
annual meeting Sept. 14 at the
.Marriott Motor Hotel.
Other officers are Mrs.
Joseph Meyer, executive vice
president, St. John’s, Hapeville;
Mrs. Carlene Thomas, recording
secretary, Our Lady of Lourdes;
Mrs. E. P. Faust, Jr., treasurer, St.
Thomas More.

Knights Elect
New Officers
Atlanta Knights of Columbus
Council 660 has elected a new
slate of officers for 1968-1969
and they will be installed July 3.
Paul Sauerburger is the new
grand knight of the council and
Paul Christian is deputy grand
knight.
Other officers are Paul Kasper,
chancellor; Ore Pesci, recording
secretary; John Hartkin,
treasurer; Gary Furin, advocate;
Ken Dugan, warden; Dick Stepka,
inside guard; Bernie Henry, Tom
Doyle, outside guards; Vic
Stepka, trustee.
The officers reappointed
Father Thomas Gilroy S.M. as
council chaplain.

WASHINGTON—Margaret
Ann Mitchell of Avondale
Estates, and Mary Ann Lambert
of Atlanta, were awarded the
bachelor of arts degree at Trinity
College, Washington, D. C., in the
college’s 65th annual
commencement exercises.
Miss Mitchell, a French major,
is a 1964 graduate of St. Pius X
High School in Atlanta. She is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph
A. Mitchell of 43 Clarendon Ave.,
Avondale Estates.
Miss Lambert, a Spanish
major, is a 1964 graduate of
D’Youville Academy in
Chamblee. She is the daughter of
Mr. and Mrs. John J. Lambert of
3451 Stratford Dr., N.E.,
Atlanta.
