‘A Neat Guy Loves Us ’
By SANDY CLINE
“Jesus, neat guy, loves us so,
With the Sacraments we’ll
grow,” sang the voices at St.
Joseph’s Village on Butner Road.
Children? Hippies? Would you
believe Atlanta women opening
their hearts to Christ?
Obviously, the three-day
meeting at the Village was no
retreat.
Twenty-seven women
representing eight Atlanta
parishes, Friendship Baptist
Church and Tuskegee, Ala. were
attending the fourth course in
Christian Living presented in
Atlanta.
DISCUSSING the Cursillo at St. Joseph’s Village are Mrs. Rosebud
'Dixon, back to camera, Friendship Baptist Church; Father Aloysius,
spiritual director; Miss Marilyn Finley, a member of the Cathedral;
and Sister Geraldine O’Meara of Tuskegee Institute.
Led by Father Aloysius Clarke
of Our Lady of Lourdes church
and Mrs. Ed Drobka of
Immaculate Heart of Mary parish,
the women listened to a series of
15 talks on phases of Christian
living ranging from ideals to
piety, study and action.
The original song expressed the
conclusion drawn by one group
concerning a talk given by Father
James Scherer on the Sacraments.
The course, better known by
its Spanish name, Cursillo, was
originated by Bishop Hervas on
the island of Majorca, Spain. His
aim was to renew the faith .of
individuals and through them
bring Christ to their environment.
This way he planned to combat
what he called the
meaninglessness of Christianity
today.
By living together for three
days of fellowship and group
interaction, the people making a
Cursillo are brought to grips with
what the love of Christ can be.
“It is a three day experience to
make you aware of the love of
God,” a Cursillista explained.
“Until you understand that God
loves you, you can’t be a really
responsive, effective Christian.”

Clubs Working
For Marist
By DON WHITTEMORE
Marist is six weeks into its new
school year, and many activities
and plans have been initiated.
The Student Council, one of
the main student functions of the
school, is now in full swing. The
annual Saint Thomas, Aquinas
Readers Service subscription
drive was held during the fourth
week of school. Cooperation was
excellent, and the Student
Council made a profit of $2,000.

The newly formed Pep Club is
attempting to increase school
spirit this year. Now, this group
stimulates enthusiasm for all
athletic events, as well as other
organizations and functions
throughout the school. This year
also saw the formation of another
club, the Marist Booster Club.
Initiated last spring, this
organization consists of almost
50 per cent of the parents of
students as well as parents with
daughters attending D’Youville
Academy,-iand members of the
Marist Alumni.
The club provides financial
assistance for the school athletic
department, and already have
presented the football team new
game uniforms, and blocking
dummies for practice sessions.
Members of this group also help
sell programs at sports events,
and collect tickets at home
games.
