Honor Role
CALENDAR
21 - The Adult Organization for Youth of Cathedral of Christ the King
parish will meet on Thursday, Nov. 21, 8 p.m. in the Cathedral
Center Assembly Room, bather Jacob Bollmcr will outline the
activities being planned. All parents and interested persons invited to
participate in the open forum.
21 - The Adult Education Class of St. Joseph’s Church, Marietta, will
meet on Thursday, Nov. 21, 8 p.m., in the library. A film strip on
Penance will be shown, followed by discussion. All interested
persons invited to participate.
21 - A Penny Toy Auction will be held at St. Joseph’s School, Marietta,
in the cafeteria, on Thursday, Nov. 21. Workshop at 7 p.m. Auction
at 8 p.m. Bring used repairable toys. All paint, thread, needles and
stuffing material will be furnished.
21 - Boy Scout Troop 165 will meet at the Cathedral of Christ the King
Center on Thursday, Nov. 21, 7:30 p.m. Preparations will be made
for the camp-out on Noy. 23 and 24. Scouts going on the camp-out
will assemble on Saturday, Nov. 23, 9 a.m. in the Cathedral church
yard.
21 - A meeting of boys and their parents who arc interested in forming
an Explorer Post will be held at Holy Cross Center on Thursday,
Nov. 21 8 p.m. A representative from the Scouting Office will
explain the organization.
21 - The Cancer Sewing Guild of St. Mary’s parish, Rome, will meet on
Thursday, Nov. 21, 9 a.m.-noon, at the Cancer Sewing Office. All
women invited to join. Call Miss Mary Jane Fahy, 232-3454, for
information.
24 - The annual bake sale of Most Blessed Sacrament parish will be held
on Sunday, Nov. 24, after all Masses. Proceeds from sale go to
charities at Christmas.
24 - Le Son Sacrc, Marist’s liturgical folk group, will take part in the
liturgy of the Mass with the parishioners of St. Jude’s Church, on
Sunday, Nov. 24, 10 a.m.
24 - The Ultreya meeting (a monthly group re-union to motivate
_ Christian living) will be held at the Cursillo Center, next door to
Sacred Heart Church, old Marist building, 329 Ivy St., N.E., on
Sunday, Nov. 24, 8 p.m.
24 - Community of Christ Our Brother will meet to cclehrate the
Eucharist on Sunday, Nov. 24, 5:30 p.m. at the Bethlehem Center,
comer of University and Capitol Ave., located in Gammon

25 - The Women’s Discussion Club of Cathedral of Christ the King will
meet on Monday, Nov. 25, 10:30 a.m. at the Cathedral Center. All

25 - The Christopher Toastmasters Club (good speaking, listening,
criticizing and confidence building) will meet on Monday, Nov. 25,

The first quarter honor roll has
been announced at St. Joseph
High School.
First honors (a 3.6 to 4.0
average) were obtained by three
seniors. They are Tom Lozano,

Lillian Suiter, 3.6.
Second honors (a 3.f to 3.6
.average) were earned by these

23 - What is the most basic meaning of parenthood? How can parents
share with their child the knowledge and love of God? How do

theologian and educator of the University of Scranton, discusses

23 - Religion classes for Exceptional children will be held at
Immaculate Heart of Mary School on Saturday, Nov. 23, 11:15 a.m.
to 12:15 p.m. (Class will not be held on Saturday, Nov. 30.)

24 - The Youth division of Most Blessed Sacrament parish will meet on

27 - The Carrollton Thanksgiving services of all churches, united, will be
held at the Church of Our Lady, Carrollton, on Wednesday, Nov. 27
7:30 p.m.
DECEMBER
1 - A Father-Daughter Dinner, sponsored by the Holy Spirit Guild, will
be held at Holy-Spirit Parish Center, on Sunday, Dec. 1, 6:30 p.m.

1 - Cathedral Club of Atlanta (for single young adults) will meet on

Center, 3175 Hathaway Court, Chamblee, on Wednesday, Dec. 4,
9:15 a.m. Mass followed by discussion until 11:15 a.m. and repeated
Wednesday night, Mass at 7:30 pan. followed by discussion until

Alabama Prelate
Made Archbishop
HAIFA, Israel (NC)-The new
Melkite-rite archbishop of Acre,
Israel, Lebanese-bom Archbishop
Joseph Raya, was installed here
(Nov. 18).
Archbishop Raya, who has
served in the United States since
1949, was consecrated in
Birmingham, Ala., on Oct. 20.
On arriving at Lod-Tel Aviv
airport, he was greeted by
representatives of Archbishop
Augustin J. Sepinski, O.F.M.,
apostolic delegate in Jerusalem
and Palestine; of Latin-rite
Patriarch Alberto Gori, O.F.M.,
of Jerusalem, and by various
Israeli officials.
While Archbishop Raya will
usually reside in Haifa, his
cathedral is in Acre and he has a
second residence in Nazareth. His
jurisdiction extends to the whole
of Israel. There are about 25,000
Melkite-rite Catholics in the Acre
archdiocese with 4,000 in Haifa.
Rabbi Jacob M. Rothschild,
spiritual leader of The Temple, is
to be the recipient of the 1968
Abe Goldstein Human Relations
Award at a banquet to be held
Sunday evening, December 1,
1968. Announcement was made
today by the Awards Committee
of the Atlanta Division of the
Anti-Defamation League of B’nai
B’rith Appeal.
Co-chairing the committee,
composed of Atlanta members of
the Southeastern Regional
Advisory Board of the ADL and
other Jewish community
leadership, are M. William
Breman, Ben Hyman, Irving K.
Kaler, and Ben Massell. The
chairmen in announcing the
Committee’s choice cited Rabbi
Rothschild’s “courageous,
innovative leadership in Atlanta’s
search for interracial and
interreligious progress.” It is the
feeling of the Committee that
‘Rabbi Rothschild serves our
entire community with energy,
directness, and personal
dedication. He strives to interpret
that man’s relationship : with his
fellow man has deep religious
motivation and must lead to
social justice.”
The Award is presented yearly
to an individual. or organization
making a contribution to better
intergroup relations in the City of
Atlanta: The 1966 recipient was
Mayor Emeritus William B.
Hartsfield; the 1967, Mayor Ivan
Allen of Atlanta.
Rabbi Rothschild will receive
the award at a banquet to be held
Sunday evening, December 1,
1968, 7:00 p.m., at the
Progressive Club.
