Choir Will Perform Christmas Program
Modern language and modem
music will re-create the
traditional Christmas story at Our
Lady of the Assumption Church
on Christmas Eve when the choir
presents the first Atlanta
performance of a new cantata,
“The Year of Our Lord”, by
Robert and Jeana Graham.
Robert W. Krick, church
choirmaster, will direct.
The performance will begin at
11:15 p.m., just before the
Solemn Midnight Mass,
celebrated by The Very Reverend
Thomas J. Roshetko, the pastor,
The cantata begins with the
announcement of the angel to
Mary and closes with the familiar
scene at the Bethlehem manger.
The authors, husband and
wife, are graduates of the
Eastman School of Music who
have written 18 cantatas together
over the course of 32 years. They
are now directing- a choir at
Barber’s Naval Air Station in
Hawaii where they, too, will
present the same Cantata this
Christmas.
Narrator will be Walter J.
Sodeman and soloists are Vivian
Biondi, soprano; Don Capati,
bass; Mary-Margaret Bowling,
soprano; Mary Evan, contralto;
John J. Goda, tenor; and Ann
Davison, soprano. Mr. Krick, the
choirmaster, will also serve as
organist. This is his second season
at Our Lady of the Assumption,
after serving in the same capacity
for seven years at Sacred Heart
Church.
For the first tinie the choir
will wear royal blue robes with
gold satin .stoles and collars
bearing the “Marist Shield”, an
adaptation of the emblem of the
Marist fathers in charge of this
parish. “The Shepherds’ Story”
sung by Mrs. Davison, Mr. Capati,
and the choir, will climax the
cantata, and the traditional “O
Holy Night” will be sung by Mrs.
Davison and the choir during the
mass.
