stripped away our middle

that you don’t need all the
things you think you do.”
“The important thing is to
be with people,” said Kathy.
They unexpectedly found
union leader Cesar Chavez to
be a warm person who
“overwhelmed you by
underwhelming you.”
During meetings, he would
play with the ears of his dog,
“Boy” (for boycott), or scoot
around engaging in his camera
bug hobby.
They were sent to
Philadelphia and then to
Atlanta to handle the lettuce
boycott.
“The first person we
bumped into in Atlanta was
Cesar, who was attending a
Migrant Ministers
Conference,” Kathy said.
He put them in touch with
the Rev. Andy Young of the
Southern Christian
Leadership Conference and
they were on their way.

“Our food is picked by

The Marist Grapplers raised
many eyebrows last week by
defeating two ranked teams
of the three in which they
matched Wednesday, Friday
and Saturday.
To start this long
Grappling week, Marist Eagles
traveled to Wheeler where
they were edged out 25 to 19
with a heavy weight class
being the deciding match.
With a day’s rest in the aid
of two pins from Jim Smith
and Bob Orwig, Marist
decisioned their way to a
squeaking 23-21 victory over
sixth ranked Westminister.
Wins in 185 lb. and
heavyweight classes, Marist
pulled it’s fifth victory 21-15
over Peachtree Patriots.

For Pope John
VENICE, Italy (NC) - A
preliminary step toward the
possible canonization of the
late Pope John XXIII was
completed here with an
examination of his life, works
and writings by bishops of
the Venice region.
The bishops concluded a
preliminary investigation-cal
led “process of inquiry”-Jan.
26 in this city of canals,
which was the seat of the late
Pope’s patriarchate before his
election to the papacy in
1958.
The 92 sessions of the
inquiry were held in the
church of St. Moise, where on
the main altar hung a large
portrait of Pope John. The
bishops heard 44 witnesses
during the sessions in the
crowded church.
Archbishop Albino
Luciani, the present patriarch
of Venice, along with the
judges of the inquiry, signed
the findings of the
eximination, which will be
sent to the Vatican’s
Congegation for the Causes of
Saints for further
investigation.

Kathy Hidding has been
named the winner of the
Betty Crocker test at St. Pius.
Kathy, along with other
senior girls, took the test in
December. The test is
designed to test knowledge
and attitudes in 10 areas vital
to marriage and family living.
She now advances to the
state competition. Mrs.
Phyllis Reneau, Home
Economics teacher,
administered the test.
Baseball
March 26 will mark the
revival of the national
pasttime at Pi Hi. On that
day, the Golden Lions will
take the fields to play
baseball. The first game is
against Chamblee at the home
field.
Under the direction of
Coach Fay Early, the pitchers
and catchers started practice
on Jan. 18. The remaining
part of the team began
practice Feb. 1.
Dresden Park is the site of
the practices. Durden is the
field directly behind the Joe
Bean Stadium. The home
games will be played at
Briareliff Community Sport’s
senior field located off
Clairmont Road behind the
Avis G. Williams library.
St. Pius is scheduled for 10
region games plus two games
against Chamblee and
possibly a couple of games
with Marist. Pi Hi last fielded
a baseball team in 1962. The
Golden Lions that year
finished with a 7-7 record.
‘Concerned’
Battle
‘Leftists’
BALTIMORE (NC) -
About 60 Baltimore Catholics
have begun a drive to rid the
Church of what they call
leftist trends.
The group, known as
Catholics Concerned,
distributed about 10,000
flyers to Mass-goers in 18
Baltimore churches after
Saturday evening and Sunday
services Jan. 23 and 24.
The flyers call upon
Catholics “to reverse the
destructive trend” within the
archdiocese.
Catholics Concerned,
which was formed about a
year ago, is apparently
incensed by what they call
the “archdiocese’s and
Cardinal Lawrence Shehan’s
open support of radical leftist
Berrigan brothers and
associates.”
Two Baltimore
archdiocesan priests, Fathers
Neil R. McLaughlin and
Joseph R. Wenderoth, and
ex-Josephite priest, Anthorty
Shoblick were indicted by a
Harrisburg grand jury in early
January on charges of
conspiring • to kidnap
presidential aide Henry
Kissinger and blow up heating
facilities in Washingtbn
government buildings.
Father Philip Berrigan, a
Josephite priest currently in
the federal prison in
Danbury, Conn., for burning
draft records in Catonsville,
Md. in 1968, was also
indicted on the same charges
along with three others. His
brother, Jesuit Father Daniel
Berrigan, also jailed in
Danubry, was named as a
cocbnspirator but not
indicted.
