THE HOLY FATHER’S MISSION AID TO THE ORIENTAL CHURCH
Christmas is Christ’s Birthday. This year, to
show Him you love Him, give your presents to
the poor. . . . For instance, train a boy for the
priesthood. We'll send you his name, he’ll write
to you, and you may stretch payments to suit
your own convenience ($15.00 a month, $180 a
year, $1,080 for the entire six-year course). The
friend who has everything, if you sponsor a
seminarian in his name, will appreciate this
more than a gift he doesn't need. We’ll send
your friend our attractive Gift Card before
Christmas, telling him what you have done. . . .
Or sponsor a Sister-to-be ($12.50 a month, $150
a year, $300 altogether), a homeless child ($14
a month), or feed a refugee family for two
weeks ($5). Your friend will be pleased you
thought of someone else when you remembered
him. . , . Please write to us today to be sure
the Gift Cards reach your friends before Christ
mas. We’ll send the cards as soon as we hear
from you.

Spring Hill College
Honors E.W.Killorin
BY MARIE MULVENNA
Edward W. Killorin,
Atlanta attorney, was
recently honored at Spring
Hill College, Mobile, Ala. and
received the Karopczyc
Award, given in recognition
of outstanding service by a
young alumnus of the Jesuit
College, which was founded
in 1830.
Killorin, who is a member
of Cathedral parish, resides at
436 Blackland Road, N.W.
with his wife and three sons.
A native of Savannah, he is
national president of the
Spring Hill College alumni
association and is active both
in fund raising and in student
recruitment for the college,
the oldest Jesuit college in
the South.
According to Killorin, over
100 Spring Hill alumni reside
in metro Atlanta and the
possibility of an active local
chapter is a present
consideration. The college has
some 6,000 alumni
throughout the nation..
In the area of national
fund raising, Killorin
described the present plan for
a “Challenge Fund,”
matching contributions with
contributions by sponsors.
Last year some 1200 alumni
donated $73,000 to the
College. Killorin has his eye
on 1500 contributors to the
alumni fund this year via the
matching funds approach,
aiming for $10,000 increase
over last year’s tally.
Also active in recruiting
students for Spring Hill,
Killorin relies on word of
mouth, school contact,
parents, other alumni. He has
a comprehensive directory of
information on the college at
his office, located at 4000
National Bank Towers in
Atlanta. The information, he
says, is “always available to
anyone.”
WQXI-TV Features
Sts. Peter, Paul Teens
Two teenage parishioners
from Sts. Peter and Paul
Decatur were featured on
Sunday’s Channel 11
production of YES. The
program, carried by
WQXI-TV in Atlanta, is a
discussion show geared for
college age viewers.
Takipart in the show were
Raymond Btzel and Ramona
Syzmanski of Sts. Peter and
Paul. They joined Mrs. Eva
Davis, head of a welfare rights
group in Atlanta, for the
program which was
moderated by Father Henry
Gracz, pastor of the Decatur
parish. Part of the
programming included a
recent Bishops’ film utilized
for the Campaign for Human
Development.

Health Education
High school students and
parents from six Catholic
parishes in Atlanta and
DeKalb County met last week
at Immaculate Heart of Mary
Church for a “Be-In,” an
unusual health education
program.
“Be-Ins’ are presented by
BIB (Better Infant Births) of
the Fulton-DeKalb-Clayton
Chapter of March of Dimes in
cooperation with PTA and
other sponsoring groups. The
project is administered by the
Atlanta Archdiocesan Council
of Catholic Women as a
member of BIB.
The program featured a
new March of Dimes
filmstrip, “Tomorrow
Happens Today,” which
illustrates how young people
can help protect unborn
children from environmental
hazards such as venereal
disease, rubella, drugs,
industrial pollutants and
genetic defects.
A discussion after the film
featured panelists Dr. Robert
A. Krai, Atlanta obstetrician,
Father Noel C. Burtenshaw,
pastor at Immaculate Heart
of Mary Church, and Deborah
Price, physical education
instructor at the parish.
Jane Nied of Immaculate
Heart of Mary and Ann
Schroeder, director of the
Parish’s School of Religion,
made arrangements for the
program.
About 260 people
attended. Mrs. Schroder, well
pleased at the success of the
evening, expressed the hope
that more parishes would
avail themselves of the
opportunity to present the
program.
The “Be-In” derives its
name from the phrase “Be in
the know.” Sponsors hope
the program will help young
people to “be in the know”
about good health practices.

We light up one out of
every four Georgians.
They are people who live in areas where they couldn’t get electricity
from any other source. So they formed consumer-owned electric
utilities - 41 of them - that maintain over 77,000 miles of lines -
enough to go three times around the earth - to bring dependable
electric power to 80% of the area of Georgia. That’s doing a big job,
and we think you ought to know about it. Because if we don’t light
you up, we probably do light up someone you know or love. So
remember who we are.
