The car and the price
are both easy to live with.
The price we put on it means even more when you get in
it. Fully reclining bucket seats. Thick wall-to-wall nylon
carpets. Simulated woodgrain style dash, steering wheel
and gearshift knob. And that’s just for starters.
All standard? Of course.

NCCJL is a relatively new organization that is sure
to grow in notoriety over the next months.
Comprised primarily of ex prisoners, but including
professionals and laymen, the National Coordinating
Committee For Justice Under Law, is doing the work
of ombudsmen and advocating comprehensive change
of the legal justice system.
Since the general public is
gradually becoming aware of
and sensitive to their burden
of a justice system that is
expensive, unproductive and
inequitable, the aim of
NCCJL “is to expose the
general public to the specific
failings of the system and to
provide the public with the
tools needed to make the
system accountable,
responsive and equitable. It is
basically an action program, a
service organization designed
to give control of the legal
justice institutions to the
local community at large.”
A public education
program includes a monthly
p u b 1 ication, media
presentations, seminars held
regionally and nationally, and
a clearinghouse facility.
Various national action
programs are also in the
planning process: offices in
the Congress and the Senate
will have NCCJL people on
their staffs as investigators;
cases will be researched,
documented and action taken
where injustices have existed;
a coalition will be organized
so a concerted effort can be
applied. A field operations
program is the most critical
aspect of NCCJL’s work,
because to bring change to
any major institution it is
essential to have a well
organized constituency. Local
CCJL (Co-ordinating
Committees for Justice) will
be formed. Members in the
community in need of
assistance or service will be
helped, and these committees
will also act as “watchdogs”
in legal justice matters.
All of this takes money,
and at the moment the
organization is in particular
need. All contributions will
be tax exempt, and each
contributor will receive a
complete financial accounting
of expenditures every six
months. If you believe in
advocacy efforts such as this
and would like to help
support them, contributions
can be sent to: NCCJL, 1302
18th Street, N.W., Suite 203,
Washington, D. C. 20036.

Gambrell, a Presbyterian,
began his address by praising
the contributions that the
Shrine has made to the city
and the state in its illustrious
history.
The former senator’s main
theme was a refutation of the
opinion of many people that
religion and politics don’t
mix.
He related how he had
spent his very first day as a
senator attending a national
prayer breakfast at which
hundreds of politicians, on
the national and state levels,
were in attendance. “Even
the president and his cabinet
were there,” he added.
He explained that the daily
sessions of the U.S. Senate
are opened with prayer. A
number of his former
colleagues, Gambrell said,
meet each Wednesday
morning for breakfast and a
prayer service. Included in
the group are Democrats and
Republicans, Catholics and
Protestants.
In closing, the former
senator warned that the West
will never defeat Communism
or sell democracy unless it
rededicates itself to the
fundamental beliefs and
commitments of its
forefathers.
Holy Name President
Eddie Gasparini gave special
recognition and expressed
gratitude to the ladies of the
parish who prepare the
monthly breakfast.

My husband was stationed for 10 wonderful years at
Robins Air Force Base, which is located at Warner
Robins just south of Macon. I’ll have you know that one
year Miss Georgia came from Warner Robins!! We were
there so long that all of our children graduated from
high-school, and four of them married there. The same
priest married our three girls, and would have married
our son, but unexpected summer plans kept him from
performing this task. We had a lot of good times there
and when we left there to move to the big city, we left
lots of sweet, and bitter-sweet, memories behind. One
year while we were there the Officers Club manager
permitted the wives’ club newspaper to print the most
asked for recipes, those which were served at coffees or
special brunches or parties. I would say that all of us ate
several pounds of this coffee-cake while we were there. I
made it just last week for a snack for the nurses and
aides who work in the recovery room at Kennestone
Hospital where I do my bit for the world as a Red Cross
Volunteer, and they voiced their approval by eating it
down to the last crumb.
SOUR CREAM COFFEE CAKE
Cream together 1 cup butter with l'A cups sugar.
Add 2 lightly beaten eggs, 1 cup sour cream and 1 tsp
vanilla.
Beat this thoroughly.
Sift together 2 cups all-purpose flour, 1 tsp baking
powder, and 'A tsp soda, and add this gradually to the
butter-egg mixture. Mix well. Butter a 9 inch square pan,
or comparable size, and pour in half the dough. Sprinkle
well with a cinnamon-sugar mixture. (If you mix 3 Tbl
sugar with 3 tsp cinnamon, you have a good mixture.)
Pour in the rest of the dough, and sprinkle again with
the cinnamon-sugar. Bake at 350 degrees for about 40
minutes or until the cake tests done. Cut into small serv
ings as with a pound cake.

is more of a hobby than a

Mr. Johnson says he

knowing what the housewife
