young people to feel
better about the future -
you have to actually give
them a chance to make a
better future,” says Lisa

Rockefeller Foundation

appears on CHRISTO

SPONSORS - The
Christian Council of
Metro Atlanta is
once again con
necting very poor
families with church
groups on a personal
basis through its
Adopt-A-Family
Christmas program.
As of Thanksgiving,
over 400 needy
families were
interviewed and
certified by
caseworkers as being
genuinely in need.
Some 60 church
groups had agreed to
“adopt” one of
these families by the
same date. Many
more sponsors are
needed by Christ
mas. Those who
prefer not to have a
personal relationship
but do want to lend
a helping hand by
providing gifts of
cash, food, or
clothing for these
families can also do
so through the
council. Call Susan
Izard (875-3282) for
more information.
A FESTIVAL OF
CAROLS - The Corpus
Christi Choir’s seasonal
delight, including excerpts
from Handel’s “Messiah,”
traditional carols, foreign
and American, and
instrumental variations,
will return Dec. 9 at 8:15
p.m. at the church, 600
Mountain View Drive,
Stone Mountain. Last
year’s first Festival of
Carols was such a success,
the parish requests that
this year people call for
tickets, at no charge, to
insure seating arrange
ments.
St. Jude’s will host
their ANNUAL
CHRISTMAS OPEN
HOUSE on Sun., Dec. 14
from 3-5 p.m. at the
rectory, 7171 Glenridge
Dr., N.E. All adult
parishioners, as well as
former parishioners, are
invited to visit at this time
and meet friends and
enjoy themselves.
Touring for the first
time and making its only
stop in the Southeast, the
exhibit “DANZIG 1939:
TREASURES OF A
DESTROYED
COMMUNITY,” will be at
Emory University Dec. 21
- Feb. 5. Housed at the
Jewish Museum in New
York under the auspices of
the Jewish Theological
Seminary of America, the
exhibit is one of the finest
collections of important
religious Jewish items to
have survived the Nazi
holocaust. It will be
displayed in the new
Schatten Gallery in the
Woouruff Library on the
Emory campus on Mon. -
Sat., 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., and
Sun., 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. The
gallery will be closed Dec.
25 - 28, and Jan. 1-3.
