‘Food Pantry’ Fare
Offered October 29
“Starting and Maintaining a Food Pantry” will be the
topic of a one-day workshop designed to help those
interested in starting food pantries in their communities
October 29.
The program will also offer new ideas to those currently
operating pantries and provide an occasion for those
involved in emergency services to become acquainted.
The Food Pantry Workshop was organized by
representatives of social service agencies working in the
Atlanta area to improve the supply and distribution of
emergency food boxes.
Catholic Social Services and the St. Vincent de Paul
Society are among the many organizations which have
cooperated for nearly two years in an effort to determine
more effective approaches to meeting emergency needs.
Betti Knott of the St. Vincent de Paul inner city outreach
will take an active part in the workshop.
The day will begin at 9 a.m. Thursday October 29 at St.
Luke’s Episcopal Church on Peachtree Street and will end at
3:45. Registration is $5/person. For information and/or
reservations, call 874-0120. The public is cordially invited
to participate.
FR. GERARD GILL, MSFS, assistant pastor of
St. Patrick’s Church in Norcross, leads the litany of
the Blessed Virgin at the rosary rally.
600 Attend
Rosary Rally
An estimated crowd of 600 turned out for the Tenth
Annual Archdiocesan Rosary Rally, held Sunday October 4
at St. Jude the Apostle Church in Sandy Springs.
Following an outdoor rosary procession, fifteen priests
of the archdiocese, as well as Fr. Clarence Biggers, OCSO of
the Monastery of the Holy Spirit, concelebrated Mass with
Archbishop Thomas A. Donnellan. The archbishop
delivered the homily honoring the Blessed Mother.
The theme for the event was the conversion of Russia.

Focus On Youth
“Together with Youth: Virions Become Realities” will
be held October 24 at Blessed Sacrament Church in
southwest Atlanta. The workshop, the second to be held
within the archdiocese focusing on youth ministry, targets
Retreats, Peer Ministry, Catholic Identity and Service. It
attempts to better prepare catechists, youth ministers and
young people to deal with issues that touch their lives and
increase the awareness of a total youth ministry catechesis
throughout the archdiocese.
The workshop begins at 9:30 a.m. and information
regarding the day may be obtained from local parish offices
or by calling 881-6131.

THE HOLY FATHER’S MISSION AID TO THE ORIENTAL CHURCH
The teacher in hungry Gaza said: “Do you see
that little eight-year-old? He's blind, of course,
but for the first time in life he’s happy! He has had
some lunch, and now he's outdoors playing ball
with other children!”. . .The ball has a bell inside,
like the ball you give a puppy. Unfprtuntely, blind
ness means playing ball by ear.. . .Some of them
are older, but there are, all told, 76 blind boys and
girls in the Holy Father’s Center for the Blind in
Gaza. They are learning to read and write Braille,
to raise chickens and rabbits, to weave beautiful
Gaza rugs. Someday, please God, despite blind
ness they'll be able to support themselves!
. . .What do these blind children need? Each one
needs only $50 a month for food, clothing, games
and learning materials. Was happiness ever
cheaper?, . . Whatever you can give will bring sun
shine into a young life lived too long in darkness.
Your gift, large or small, is most needed—and
most welcome.
