STS. PETER AND PAUL PARISH in Decatur invites
you to join in their 25th anniversary celebration on
Sunday, Sept. 9, at 12 noon for a Mass of Thanksgiving.
Archbishop Thomas A. Donnellan will be the main
celebrant and homilist. There will be a picnic with music
and entertainment to follow the Eucharist. Casual dress.

THE ATLANTA HISTORICAL SOCIETY will have
sign language interpreted tours available beginning Aug. 4.
The Atlanta Historical Society, with a $6,000 grant from
the Georgia Council for the Arts to provide greater site
and program accessibility for the disabled, will offer tours

THE NATIONAL OFFICE FOR BLACK CATHOLICS
will convene its third national biennial conference in New
Orleans, Aug. 8-11, at the Sheraton International Hotel.
Keynoters will include Dr. Norman Francis, President,
Xavier University of New Orleans, and Dr. Ivan Van
Sertima, Professor of Linguistics and Anthropology,
Rutgers University, and author of “They Came Before
Columbus - The African Presence in Ancient America.”

ATLANTA SPEECH CLUB meets at St. Joseph’s twice
monthly and is geared toward people with speech

In an effort to unify the work for justice and peace in
the dioceses of Savannah and Atlanta, Pax Christi Warner
Robins extends an invitation to those in the archdiocese
to join in a prayer vigil and fast Aug. 4-5 commemorating *
the anniversary of Hiroshima, and the dropping of the
first atomic bomb.
The vigil will be held at Sacred Heart Church in Warner
Robins beginning at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 4 and ending with an
agape breakfast at 9:15 a.m. Sun., Aug. 5.
Gordon Zahn, professor of sociology at Loyola
University and author, will be the speaker Aug. 4. Zahn is
the author of “In Silent Witness,” the life and death of
Franz Jagerstatter, the only official conscientious objector
to Hitler’s army during World War II, who was beheaded
in 1943. A 1971 Austrian film, Refusal, based on Zahn’s
book, will be shown at the prayer vigil. Zahn will also
show the film and speak on Mon., Aug. 6.
To take part in the overnight vigil, bring sleeping bags
and food to share at breakfast. For more information,

THE HIGH MUSEUM OF ART is scheduling interviews ^
for prospective volunteers for next fall. Among other
programs are Discovery, especially designed for fourth
grade students from Atlanta City Schools. This program
aims at developing the child’s perception of art in the
museum and environment. Artventures is a program
offering creative workshops for hospitalized children. The
Student Tours program introduces art in the museum and
ways of interpreting it to third through seventh graders. «
