Joel Goldberg,
Chairman of the Executive
Committee for Rich’s,
Inc., has been reappointed
Chairman of the Board of
Trustees of Saint Joseph’s
Hospital in Atlanta for the
1984-85 term.
Mr. Goldberg has served
as Chairman of the Board
of Trustees since 1982 and
also serves as Vice
Chairman of the Saint
Joseph’s Hospital
Foundation.
Elected as new members
to the Board of Trustees
are John L. Clendenin,
Chairman of the Board
and Chief Executive
Officer of BellSouth;
William R. Beak,
President, Rubloff Inc.,
Southern Region; and

William R. Beak is
Chairman of the National
Admissions Committee of
the Society of Industrial
Realtors and is a member
of numerous realtor
societies.
He is a member of the
Board of Directors for
Family and Child Services,
Atlanta; an active member
in Central Atlanta
Progress; and a member of
the Atlanta Crime
Commission.
In addition, Mr. Beak is
an active parishioner of
Christ the King Catholic
Church, and he and his
wife have three daughters.
John L. Clendenin was
elected President of
Southern Bell in April,
1981, and became
Chairman of the Board in
November, 1982. He
became Chief Executive
Officer of BellSouth, the
largest of the new regional
telecommunications
holding companies, on
January 1, 1984, and
became Chairman on April
1, 1984.
Not only will Clendenin
serve as a Trustee on Saint
Joseph’s Board, but he is
also a member of the

Permanent
Diaconate
Ordination

The ordination to
the Permanent
Diaconate of John
Cicala will take place
at St. Oliver
Plunkett parish
August 25 at 6 p.m.
Archbishop Thomas
A. Donnellan will
perform the
ordination and Mass
will be concelebrat-
ed by priests and
deacons from
around the
archdiocese.
John Cicala and
wife, Terry, are new
to the Atlanta area.
They moved from
South Florida to be
close to their only
son, John, who has a
law practice in
Gwinnett County.
John retired as a
superior court judge
in Connecticut in
1968 after suffering
from a serious heart
ailment. He and his
wife moved to Fort
Lauderdale and
became very active
in church activities.
The 6 5-year-old
distinguished
looking man brings
with him a very
active background.
He studied for the
Permanent
Diaconate at St.
Vincent de Paul
Seminary in
Boynton Beach. He
is presently working
at the Catholic
Center in the
Tribunal Office
three days a week.
He has been very
instrumental in
helping them with
their caseloads. He
has worked at the
Tribunal in Miami as
well.
Father Terrance
Kane, pastor for St.
Oliver Plunkett, has
invited clergy,
deacons and nuns to
participate in this
special celebration
for their brother in
Christ.
