Boy Singers Off On European Tour
BY RITA McINERNEY
Seventy-one members of
the Atlanta Boy Choir are
leaving for Europe June 20
on an 18-day concert tour of
Yugoslavia, Italy and
Austria under the leader
ship of choir director Flet
cher Wolfe.
The performances and
travel in Europe will be a
rewarding experience for
the young singers who have
been practicing strenuous
ly since January. And, ac
cording to the parents of
two boys who will make the
trip, belonging to the choir
has been a positive factor
in their sons’ lives.
Arlene Nicpon, mother of
Carl Nicpon, 12, says, “It
has given him a lot of con
fidence. He has matured
and acquired a sense of
resDonsibility.”

parents, who have their
own business, were able to
get contributions from a
number of their suppliers.
Half of the money raised by
each boy and his parents go
to pay his individual ex
penses. The other half is
contributed to the choir
fund.
Kenneth G. Walker, Sr.,
says his son Kenneth, a
choir member for four
years, has improved in
several areas through his
choir work. The senior
Walker credits the
demands of choir par
ticipation with giving his
son a sense of discipline
and the willingness to
follow directions. The need
to memorize, a necessity,
for the young singers, has
helped his concentration in
school, Walker says.
Young Kenneth, who will
be 11 in August, has com-

also attended Lourdes.
Walker says his son sold
bulbs and concert tickets to
help pay for his trip. He
also made the European
tour with the choir last
summer. The Walkers are
hopeful they will be able to
go along when the choir
visits China next summer.

Our Lady of the Hills Camp
encompasses 110 acres of mountain
land with a 30-acre private
stream-fed mountain lake. A
recreational camp, this Catholic
facility provides all major fields of
sports and outdoor activities. Under
the supervision of the camp’s
carefully chosen and trained
counselors, the interests and needs of
the campers come first.
Catholic camping is an experience
in Christian community living in the
out-of-doors where those involved
find meaning- and purpose for their
lives.
Under the guidance of counselors,
sisters, priests, seminarians and
