LEGION OF MARY
New Curia Holds First Congress
St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary
To Sponsor Tour Of Churches
The first congress of a
new curia of the Legion of
Mary, Our Lady Queen of
Heaven, North Atlanta,
was held at Immaculate
Heart of Mary Church, on
Oct. 17.
The session began, after
Mass at 9:30 a.m., with a
talk on “Legionary Evan
gelism or Apostleship” by
Father Hugh Byron, spiri
tual director.
Sessions during the day
were on “Conversion
Through Personal Con
tact,” “Home to Home Vis
itation,” and “The Kind of
Catholicism Needed."
Father Byron pointed out
that every parish needs lay
people who are “virtuous,
enlightened, determined
and apostolic” who will
share the task of evange
lism with the priest.
The program concluded
with an open forum on per
sonal holiness and the
Legion of Mary prayers.

Catechist Workshops Announced
The Office of Religious Education an
nounces 11 catechists workshops to be
given during the month of November to
help catechists attain credit towards cer
tification.
The presenter will be Bob Melevin, con
sultant for catechist formation.
Those attending from parishes other
than the host site should contact the host
parish to reserve a place.
The schedule of topics and sites is as
follows:
November 11, 18 — Sacraments,
7:30-9:30$rm., St. Catherine of Siena, Ken-
nesaw.
November 5, 19 — Foundations of
Morality, 7:30-9:30 p.m., Holy Trinity,
Peachtree City.
November 10, 17, 24 — Foundations and
Teachings of the Church, 7-9 p.m.. Sacred
Heart, Milledgeville.
November 14 — Issues in Morality, 9:30
a.m.-12:30 p.m., St. Joseph, Dalton.
November 15 — Sacraments of Initia
tion, 2-5 p.m., St. Peter, LaGrange.
November 21 — Sacraments of Healing
and Commitment, 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., St.
Patrick, Norcross.
November 23 — Sacraments of
Eucharist and Reconciliation, 7-9 p.m., St.
Augustine, Covington.
St. Joseph's Hospital Auxiliary will
sponsor Atlanta’s first Tour of Churches
next April 29 and 30.
The churches include: The Cathedral of
Saint Philip, First Presbyterian, New
Hope, A.M.E., Wieuca Road Baptist,
Peachtree Christian and Sacred Heart
Catholic Church. Tour hours will be from
12 noon to 7 p.m., Friday, April 29 and from
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, April 30.
Guides will be at each church to tell
visitors about the history of the building,
the significance of the architecture and
answer questions.
Ruth Montagne, auxiliary president,
said the tour “will give people a chance to
learn some of the fascinating history
behind these churches and see the lovely
architecture."
Tickets for the entire tour are $10 per
person and for visiting a single church
$2.50 per person. They will go on sale next
March. All proceeds will be added to the
auxiliary support of Saint Joseph’s
Hospital’s building fund.
SALLY CRELIA, 22, a member of St. Jude the Apostle parish will be
working as a Christian Foundation for Children volunteer for a year in
either Honduras or Venezuela. Miss Crelia, pictured above second
from the right, is the daughter of Val and Mary Crelia and a May
graduate of Southern Methodist University. CFC is a Kansas City
based, non-denominational organization dedicated to serving needy
children and the aging in 11 developing countries. CFC volunteers are
self-funded.
Scholarships Offered
For Ministry Program
The Office of Religious Education of the arch
diocese has announced limited scholarship funds for
students in the Loyola University Institute for
Ministry Extension Program.
The scholarships are based on financial need and a
commitment by the recipient to future ministry in the
archdiocese.
The scholarships in the amount of $300 will be
awarded to those who successfully complete the re
quirements and will be distributed on the basis of
available funds. Scholarships will be limited to one
person from each parish or archdiocesan high school.
The final determination of the awarding of the
scholarships will be made by the Secretary of Educa
tion and the Director of Religious Education of the
archdiocese of Atlanta.
To be eligible applicants must submit a letter re
questing the scholarship which includes a statement
of future commitment to ministry in the archdiocese.
They must be enrolled in one of the present learning
groups of Lim-Ex in the archdiocese. Applicants
must also submit a copy of the statement of education
purpose given to Loyola at the time of entrance to the
program as well as a letter completed by the pastor
of the parish, director of religious education, or
school principal giving evidence of their financial
need. Ail scholarship applications must be received
in the Office of Religious Education, Archdiocese of
Atlanta, 680 W. Peachtree St., N.W. no later than Dec.
15, 1987, to be eligible for scholarship funding for the
1987-88 academic year. For further information, con
