Franciscan Vows
Sister Pat Doody professed her first vows as a Francis
can Sister of Dubuque, Iowa, at a Eucharistic Liturgy on
July 7 at the motherhouse. She entered the order’s novi
tiate Aug. 13, 1988.
In September she will begin teaching religion at Notre
Dame High School for Girls in Chicago. Before joining
the Franciscan order she taught English in schools in
Gilmer and Lumpkin counties.
After entering the novitiate in August, 1988, she spent
the first or canonical year studying the history of the
Franciscan congregation and becoming rooted in the life
of the community. During the second year she studied at
the Catholic Theological Union in Chicago and received
a certificate in pastoral studies. This study brought her
“halfway to her master’s degree,” she says.
Prior to entering the novitiate, she spent two years as an
affiliate in the community. During this time she taught
religion and English at Marquette High School in Belle
vue, Iowa.
Sister Pat grew up in Stone Mountain. While attending
North Georgia College in Dahlonega she became active in
St. Luke’s parish there.
