IN MEMORIAM Dr. Charles Dubois Hubert This tribute can but be meager when compared with the work of the man it eulogizes, but it is with a sense of priv ilege and with sincere affection and deep appreciation that we, the class of 1944, pay honor in this last issue of the Campus Mirror to the memory of Dr. Charles DuBois Hubert, who departed from us January 26, 1944. Dr. Hubert was graduated from More house Academy in 1905 and from the College in 1909. In fulfilling his great desire to become a minister, he studied at Rochester Theological Seminary in New York, was a member of the class of 1912, and continued his education at the University of Chicago. While in Rochester he was the pastor of a church from 1914 to 1916. In At lanta he was the pastor of Providence Baptist Church for the fifteen years up to the time of his death. Dr. Hubert may well be thought of as the “students’ friend.” Throughout his life he was one from whom a helping hand materially as well as spiritually could always he received. Anywhere and everywhere he was able to give inspira tion to and to inject courage into young people not only by his teachings but also by his actions. He was acting presi dent of Morehouse College for three years, director of the school of religion for eighteen years, and teacher at More house College for twenty-eight years. During this time all of the many students that came under his tutelage received something intangible, something that be came a part of them to be expressed in living and performing on a higher plane. Mere words will never adequately ex press our true respect and admiration for him nor the similar sentiments of hundreds of others who knew him. We remember him as a minister, a teacher, a respected citizen, but most of all, as a valued friend. His memory will live with us forever.
