The last W ill and Testament of the
Senior Class of Spelman College, At
lanta, County of Fulton, State of Geor
gia. made and published this third day
of May in the year of our Lord, One
Thousand Nine Hundred and horty-
seven.
We, the Senior Class, of Spelman Col
lege, City of Atlanta, County of Ful
ton, State of Georgia, being of sound
and disposing mind and memory, do
hereby make, publish and declare this
our last Will and Testament in manner
following: That is to bequeath both in
dividually and collectively those attrib
utes and virtues that may he of some
service to our friends.
We bequeath Spelman College, our
love and never-failing loyalty.
To the Juniors, Sophomores, and
Freshmen, we bequeath our standard for
development of high ideals anti aspira
tion, and our appreciation of all ideals
that make for deeper and richer living.
Cleopatra Jones bequeaths her abil
ity to sleep during exam week to any
underclassman who sits up to study.
Mildred Collier wills to Jacquelyn Lar
kins the ability to carry a violin case
under her arm with the greatest of ease,
especially when it is raining. Vivian Set
tles wills her shower shoes to Mettie
Morton and to Ethel (Petey) Coleman
her ability to keep quiet after 10 p.m.
Blanche Smith bequeaths a seat in
vespers on the ninth row, second seat,
to anyone who is willing to attend each
Sunday and has the ability to keep hei
eyes open. Mattie Fisher wills to Sara
Penn the second alto position in the
Spelman Quartet. To Eleanor Ison Myrtle
Marks bequeaths two inches. Doris Rob
inson wills to Theodosia W ashington her
position in the hair dressing parlor in
Morehouse South. Birdie Gambrell wills
to Christine Polk the duty that has been
hers for two years. Miriam Harris be
stows with her blessing on the Dunn twins
her dignity.
Maxine Miller wills her heavy boom
ing voice to Naomi Coles, and the
ability to play the bass violin to Mar
garet Holder (if she can reach it).
Frances Roberts bequeaths to Dorothy
Johnson a sense of humor. Anita Hollo
way wills her cozy room in Morehouse
North 226 to Bessie Calhoun. To Doro
thy Collins, Mildred Ponder wills her
calmness and poise in tense situations.
Minnie Whited is willing her job at Up
ton to Bertha Robertson so that she
will have a nice quiet place to study
every night.
Catherine Wilson does will her abil
ity to work on the desk and to attend
religious services regularly to Jeannette
Smith. Virginia Entzminger bequeaths
her seat in the glee club, chorus and
the music studio to Eloise Yorke. Mary
Jones wills her friendship to Reatha
Blackman. To Pauline Murphy, Joanna
Owens bequeaths her ability to eat a
lot and still not gain weight. Eugenia
Williams bequeaths her gift of gab to
Gloria Davis.
Madeline Holder wills her ability to
move fast to Willow Donaldson and to
Antoinette Handy the entire music de
partment. June Wade \\ills endurance
to Emma Pratt and to Alberta Simmons
her personality. Rosalyn Daniels be
queaths her ability to work chemistry
problems to Estelle Copeland, and her
black suit to Maurice Webster, who likes
to borrow it. Genevieve Lawless wills
her duty as an efficient Glee Club li
brarian to Ella Mae Gaines. Adelle del
Pino bequeaths her pleasing smile and
personality, along with her singing abil
ity, to Mildred Napper. Helen Jenkins
very generously wills her dignity to
Christine Polk.
To Jacqueline Larkins, Rhoda Crute
wills the melodious task of playing the
chimes each morning. The Holloway
twins bestow their gracious poise upon
the Dunn twins. Esther Register be
queaths to Frankie Durkee her conge
nial attitude. Jeanne Willis wills her
executive ability to the new prexy of
the S. S. A., and her Canadian accent to
Ereida McDonald. Claudia Davis, with
best wishes to all, wills the Morehouse
reception room during calling hours to
Mettie Morton.
Mary Lemon bequeaths her love of
biology to Ethel Hendricks. Tiny Mable
Fuller wills to Barbara Grant her short
stature. Mae Frances Clowney wills
her love of history to Ernestine Johnson
in hopes that it will help her during
exams. Josie Latimer bequeaths the Li
brary Club to Emmalyn Jenkins and the
sophomores. Diana Mattison wills her
winsome dimples and charming smile to
Wilhelmina Wilson. Harriet Myers be
stows upon Lucille Hunter her penman
ship to he used for term papers. Rose
Archie wills to Theresa Smith her abil
ity to get where she is going in a hurry.
To Ernestine Keith and Diane An
derson (with the full approval of her
roommate, Amanda Keith.), Eloise Mc
Kinney wills the “Terrace Room,” 228
Morehouse North, replete with all dec
orations and butler. To Frankie Dur
kee. Ann Harris leaves her sportsman
ship. and to Charlie Mack her ability to
get locked out of lab. Rosetta Wimberly
wills her ability to get mail every day
to Clifton Tinsley. Lillian Vaughan wills
the key to Room 214 to Ethel Hendricks
and “Pat” White so that they may look
out of the window as often as they wish.
And to Ruth Gandy. Lillian leaves a lit
tle trap for the little stranger who visits
them occasionally. Sarah Powell wills
her ability to go to classes at Clark and
Morehouse Colleges in one morning
to any campus-bound freshman. Alma
Powell bequeaths her technique in
“classroom filibuster' to a worthy and
most needy student, Maurice Webster.
Charlie Lovett wills her ability to be
faithful to one fellow for four years
to fickled-minded Sara Braswell.
Amanda Keith wills her hearty, con
tagious and infectious laughter to Eu
nice Carter, lmogene Morrow bequeaths
to Sue Perteet the piano lessons she has
cut all four years with the hope that
she may use them wisely. Mademoiselle
Muriel Brown wills her beaucoup de
trancais to Jeralyn Young for next
year. The ability to he a poet, to know
a poet, and to love a poet Ellen Barnette
bequeaths to Eloise Ashmore. To Ruth
Gandy, Evelyn Moore wills her question
mark decisions.
Lauretta Lewis regretfully wills her
enormous appetite and her first place in
the seconod and third dinner lines to
Gwendolyn Fuller. Bennie Tillman wills
her ability to be in bed at 10 p.m. every
night to Bessie Calhoun for her beauty
nap. Doris Reel wills her always con
stant, unperturbed walk to Mary Alice
Howard to be used especially at meal
times. Daisy Phinazee wills to Sarah
Brooks her ability to stick it out for
four years; to Antoinette Handy and
Mildred Napper her willingness to let
others talk sometimes; to Ernestine
Garth her skill in playing basketball
in the gym without running into the
posts.
To Barbara Mason, Lucile Worford
wills her ability to debate. Thelma Kel-
log wills her friendship to Diane An
derson, and her job of picking pansies
to Dorothy Collins. To Mary Alice
Howard. Ruth Lanon bequeaths her
ability to be quiet. Leanora Butler wills
her perseverance to Emmalyn Jenkins
in times of utter distress. Hattie Parks
wills her seat in ceramics to Darlyne
Atkinson. To Dorothy Jean Lewis, Car
olyn Smith bequeaths her French books
for future years. Lulu Wood wills her
competence as a hostess to Emma Stone,
and Romae Turner wills her job at the
A. U. Library to Mary Bowman. Era
Register wills her ability to sleep late
without a care to Emma Pratt. Eunice
Hines wills her over anxiety to use the
phone to Jeralyn Young.
We hereby nominate and appoint
the president of the class of 1948 as
the executrix of this last NA ill and Testa
ment, hereby revoking any and all for
mer wills and testamentary instruments
by us made.
