Fannie R. Gilbert
On the college campus she is a leader conscious of the needs of her fol
lowers. Like all good leaders, she has visions of new horizons for exploration,
forever pointing the way upward for those who would follow in her footsteps.
She has not stood on the threshold of learning with hesitance, but has
firmly opened the door of learning with the courage and perseverance of those
who search diligently for truth. After entering, she has been open-minded and
eager to learn, for she knows that her success depends upon her determination.
And now she must launch out into the surging sea of humanity, a clean
cut, dynamic figure of womanhood pressing always toward higher and more
worthwhile goals. She will lend herself to alleviate some of the world’s suffering,
and knowing her duty to mankind, she will not be satisfied until her best has
been given to any task. She will bear high the torch of knowledge, and with a
kind word on her lips and God in her heart she will be a joy to all who meet her.
We know that there are great things ahead for her. She will breast the
rising tide with the love, faith, and gentle awareness of a true Spelmanite.
We are proud to salute her as—the graduate of ’50.
