What We
Are About
By ROBERT REESE
Editor-in-Chief
Wolverine Observer
I was hesitant] about writing
this because it just seems late, but
alter observing and listening to
some of ^he displaced Africans
running around her all out of
perspective, I figured this might
be in order. We are Africans, col
onized Africans here on American
soil.
All cultural, historical and an
cestral knowledge we can uncov
er bears this out. Our homeland
is 11,500,000 sq. miles of the rich
est terrain on the face of the earth.
Yet some of us still deny our
homeland. I’ve heard a lot of peo
ple around here say, “I ain’t no
African.” I would only ask what
are you? If you say Negro, I
would only ask what is a Negro
and where did he, she or it come,
from?
Until we realize what we are
we can never be free. Lack of
self-knowledge is ignorance and
ignorant people will always be led
around like little children/little
puppies. Our homeland is being
exploited by Europeans and Euro-
Americans and until Africa is to
tally free Black, the globe over
of African descent can never be
free. The concept of pan-African-
ism should be with us constantly
because a mental link with Africa
is very important. We are Afri
cans and anyone who is black and
refutes this fact . . . is a N E -
G R O.

A Student Speaks
Class cutting has gotten to the
point where students are so wrap
ped up in not attending the class
that they are failing to realize
when it is most important to at
tend. There is no reason what-
so-ever that a student has to miss |
assignments essential for passing
the course. Where as grammar
may trip you up on written pa
pers an oral report may get you
an A. Perhaps some students feel
they can make it up on the final
examination, but this does not
work when an instructor deter
mines your grades accumulatively.
Five F’s and one A still comes out
to be an F. Now was all the extra
effort to cram for one test you
DID bother to take worth it?
Morris Brown College is composed
of a vast majority of bright stu
dents and students who with a
litle concern for class attendance
could also b as equally bright.
What would happen if students
decided to attend classes: (1) The
Co-op might clase after 2:00 p.m.
(2) The second floor recreation
lounge would be open on Sunday
afternoons only. (3) Students
would take lunch at a scheduled
time and have a specific time to
eat their lunch thus cutting down
the confusion in the dining hall.
(4) The familiar pounding Mrs.
Terry’s probation stamp would
cease to exist. (5) and lastly the
Dean’s list posted in Fountain Hall
would run off th bulletin board
because of the length. Surprise
the instructors and attend class
all at one time. This could be so
shocking that one day class may
be dismissed all together. Come
on Brownites, support your grades,
attend class.
Do You
Want
A Merger
Students?
Our Opinion
The importance of the issue
that will be facing you soon is
not to be taken lightly.
I will be the first to say that
there are some advantages to a
merger but just as anything else
there are dis-advantages. There
is an economic advantage and
maybe one of physical resources
and that is the extent of it. The
maintaining of our autonomy is a
very serious thing, to some of you
it may be just a thought or a
word but it is very important in
that the Morris Brown-Wolverine
Observer should not be co-opted
into a conglomerate. The Clark
Panther (Student Newspaper) has
said that they have reservations
about this proposed merger, could
they know something that we
don’t? I think that we would all
like to know what goes on in
the Center at the other institu
tions, but more important we
would like to know first of all
what goes on at Morris Brown.
There are a lot of things on our
campus that need attention and
tightening up and I feel that be
fore we embark on a venture of
this nature; we should get our
thing here at Morris Brown toge
ther first. In talking this idea ov
er with our beloved President Dr.
John A. Middleton, he said, “It
would be to our advantage to keep
the Wolverine Observer and lets
look out for Dear Old M.B.C.
first.”
As a closing thought I noticed
on the information sheet (so-call
ed) that you received, there was
a quote that read, “We don’t want
to try to tell you how to vote but
a lot of people are dying to hear
you say yes.” I would only ask
who those lot of people are? Be
cause all of the students here at
M.B,C. that I’ve had the occasion
’to talk to want the Observer to
remain intact.
Open Letter
to the
Freshman Class
By Norris Anderson
In trying to depict an attitude
for this school year, one would
see it as being most spirited. Spir
ited because, we hope that the
type of people within this class
are carrying enthusiasm to the
utmost for Morris Brown. Enthu
siasm is spread immensly in the
body and soul of your President,
not only for Morris Brown, but
also for the success of our class.
I’ll be here to listen, to your
ideas at all times. For the most
past, one will find the Freshman
Class as a decision-making body.
Your representatives will be
come loud speakers for your de
sires and ideas. They will be
working very closely with me in
all endeavors. You must give
these people a chance to do their
job.
The foundation that we set as
freshmen will become: a 1 looking
• glass for our coming years. This
year will reflect the expectations
of our class from this time until
the day of graduation.
We, the Freshman Class: of 70-71
have the potential to place ever
lasting memories here- in the halls
of Morris Brown College. Memor
ies that will fill the air surround
ing us. We will not be forgotten
by those before us and: we will he
idolized by those behind us;.
I say to you, “Let Love, Peace,
and Hapipness guide us upward
on the road to perfection.”
Thank you,
Norris Anderson, President
