Track
and
Field
By Michael Foreman
The Morris Brown College
men's track team started its
season off quite impressively
at the Albany State College
relays. The team's competition
consisted of such teams from
Morehouse College, Clark
College, Fort Valley State
College, West Georgia
College, and Albany State
College.
Despite the bad weather
conditions and stiff com
petition, MBC managed to
place second in the 4 x 100
relays with a time of 42.0
seconds, run by Cornelius
"Bunny hop" Davis, Eric
"Bird" Williams, Michael
Foreman, and Warren Moon.
Tim Hardy placed second in
the 800meters run with a time
of 1.49 seconds, Elijah
placed second in the 400
meters high hurdles, and Eric
"Bird" Williams won the most
exciting event of all track
meets-the 100 meter dash-with
a winning time of 10.5 secon
ds.
The MBC girls track team
did not compete due to can
cellation.

Show Start
While basketball is not the
only sport in progress, the
track team of MBC has gotten
off to a slow start. While prac
ticing in the new gym it has
been difficult for the team to
get in top condition. "Due to
the weather factor, I have not
been able to get out doors and
rain has hindered us," says
Coach Head. "Inside the gym
once you start to run at top
speed you have to slow down
in order not to run into the
bleachers." "There are so
many obstacles that keep the
team from getting in better
shape." "Until the weather ac
tually breaks, the team will
continue to work inside
everyday lifting weights and
doing very strenuous exercises
as well as running as much as
possible while ultilizing the
facilities they have.
Coach Head feels, despite
the handicaps, his team will do
very well in the area as well as
on the road. With certain out
standing players participating
in track and field events,
Coach Head feels he will
Basketball
While the winter sports
have slowly disappeared and
the spring sports for the 1980
season are creeping in, the
long lost struggle of our
basketball team has now been
set aside as history. New
hopes of a better school effort
with our spring sports should
provide us, the fans, with
more enthusiasm.
Intramural Basketball
One phase of basketball that
is still not yet completely over
with, is the newly formed in
tramural basketball program
headed by Coach John Swan
son and Co-chairman Micheal
Scott.
In comparison with last
year's team, this year's efforts
have proven to be much more
successful. "We have better
organization and a committee
of players on various teams
which has helped the program
become a great success
already," says chairman
Micheal Scott. "We even have
volleyball for the ladies who
also want to participate in our
intramural sports program."
The program should prove to
be the highlight of the remain
der of the school year.

There will be four divisions
of play. An all-star game and
playoff which will determine
this year's winner. Last year's
winner Pablo Cruise, will have
most of its star performers
back including Mike Scott.
Other teams to look for are
T.C. Sun, Sub-Dogs, and
Street Players, all of which are
excellent.
Scott says "This is the only

The Fighting Wolverines
By Susan Ashe
Many people would like to
know whatever happens to the
Morris Brown College fighting
Wolverines (the football
team). When there are no
more games to played, do they
do into hibernation and wait
for the upcoming season& No
the fighting Wolverines have
not left us.
A few times you may catch
a player in the cafeteria
"chowing down" or maybe on
a barren road you might hap
pen to see a group of players
running, for their health. But
the majority of the team were
to be found in the weight room
preparing themselves for a
bright new season.
In '79 Morris Brown pulled
away with a satisfactory -6-5
record. But with changes to
come all are hoping to see the
fighting Wolverines standout
with a 11-0 record. Spring
training has almost passed
away the dream of a vic
torious season still remains.
The big difference will come
from the incoming freshman.
Many seniors have departed
yet the potential of the
newcomers will make up the
difference, and then some....
The technique shall remain
the same and there will be no
definate change amongst the
coaching staff.
The attitudes of the players
will possibly improve to give
the whole team a winning
spirit, if not Headcoach Lam-
brett Reid will have to "crack
the whip".
Coach Reid clearly stated,
"If we go in with the en
thusiasm of a winning team we
shall come out with the record
of a winning team."
Those twenty days of
"cracking the whip", knocking
heads and grinding shoulders
were only a simple stepping
stone. The real boulder will be
approached soon enough and
our team will be placed to the
test. It is hoped that spring
training brought about more
than splitting headaches and
bruised shoulders, but a
brighter future for the Fighting
Wolverines.
