F = Is for the forefathers who helped in establishing higher
education for the American Negro.
O = Is for the opportunities that the institution hold.
U = Is for the unity that existed during the making of it all.
N = Is for the negotiations made to get things underway.
D = Is for the dedication that went into every aspect of
bringing this school into existence.
E = Is for the energy exerted with seemingly endless hours
of continuous struggle.
R = Is for the reason behind it all.
S = Is for the spark that started a bursting flame of con
tinuous education.
D = Is for the dignity that each MBC family member held
■ within.
A = Is for the annual celebration comemmorating the great
history of Morris Brown.

Outstanding among the delinquent girls, which recen-

Few pioneers have done
more for the Negro in Georgia
than the late Mrs. Mary E.
McCree. During her first year
out of College and only
nineteen years after the
Proclamation of Emancipation
was signed, she operate a
private school in Atlanta.
Mrs. McCree did not enter
the teaching profession for
financial security, but for the
service she might render Negro
youth. The greatest example
of that spirit of service was
shown when she closed her
school in order that Morris
Brown might successfully
operate its first year.
As teacher and ad
ministrator, she won an en
viable spot in the hearts of all
students who knew her, and
today, despite the fact that a
quarter of a century has in
tervened since she was struck
by the common leveler of
mankind, she still lives.
Morris Brown College
students, faculty, alumni and
supporters are indeed proud of
this public spirited citizen who
so willingly and unselfishly
helped to build this great
school of ours. And just as we
set aside a day for the founders
of our school, we reserve
space in our hearts for Mrs.
