PERRIN Although, the Elbert County High School football team had anothetr victory taken out of its grasp in the last minutes of Friday night’s game against the Madison County Red Raid ers in the Granite Bowl, foot ball fans in attendance enjoyed an above average battle as the. teams tied at 20 u 2(h Early in the first quarter the Blue Devils put a long drive together, which ended in a well thrown, 3 (1-yard touchdown pass from junior quarterback Jeff Howe to Tony Bryant. A Madison County fumble on their own 20-yard line in the second period set EOHS in good scoring position. On an option play Kent Saxon carried the ball across the Red Raiders goal line. A Devil drive midway through the third quarter end ed in a short jump pass from Howe to Greg Hughes for a touchdown. The PAT attempt was good and the Blue Devils had a 20-7 edge. The Devils began a drive from their own 25-yard line with less than four minutes left. With less than a minute left EOHS called time-out to get ready for a 25-yard field goal attempt from the 15-yard line. Upcoming Meets For Track Team BY JULIE GRIMES “EOHS has perfect balance for a crbss country team. We have a strong lead runner and the other four are capable of placing second,” - Coach Mark Russell comments. Members of the team in clude: Dan Jones, James Thornton, George Jones, Linton Huff, Paul Montgomery, and ’Bobby Huhti, plus'"several girls who often participate. The team has started off with a winning season, defeating Franklin County twice with scores of 25-32 and 24-31. At Quadrangular Meet in Athens, the runners placed fourth. “The biggest test to-date will be Riverside,” continued Coach Russell. “We finished behind them by one point at the Quad rangular Meet.”. Upcoming meets are the Riv erside Invitational November 2 where 6 - 8, teams will compete for trophies and medals. Also scheduled is the Regional Qual ifying Meet in Winder, where ECH'S will go up against Win der, Habersham, Riverdale, and Franklin in hopes of qualifying for the State Meet sometime in December in Atlanta. Oliver Russell Attends Clinic on Tennis BY JULIE GRIMES Coach Mark Russell attend ed the First Annual Scholastic Coach Southern Lawn Tennis Association (SLTA) Workshop. The two day event, October 18 and 19, was- held in Atlanta. Coaches from eleven southern states representing both high schools and colleges were pres ent. The coaches attended various lectures and demonstrations led by some of the foremost tennis instructors in the country. Coach Russell stated that: the knowledge he gained at this would “better the E- C. H. S. tennis' team.” It’s a day like this when I hate football practice.” Think On This Proverbs, (sometime defined general truth, can be quite in teresting when we take a close look at them. Blessings are not valued Devils Tear Devils BY RITA BROWN Homecoming was a very up setting defeat, as the Devils of Norcross ripped the Big Blue by a score of 7-0. During the first quarter of the ballgame, the ball was car ried up and down the field but the second quarter brought Norcross’s first touchdown.' At the end of the first half the score was 7-0< and the score remained steady throughout the rest of the game.
