▼ r The Atlanta March Committee
The Atlanta March Committee is a community-based activist
organization devoted to promoting lesbian and gay rights through
educational, social, cultural and political events. Originally started as a
grass-roots group of men and women dedicated to organizing the March on
Washington, the March Committee's reputation for "getting things done" has grown
nationally as well as locally. The members of AMC decided to remain active due to
our closeness as a group and our ability to raise money and attract attention to lesbian
and gay issues of concern to us all. Some examples of our varied activities this year
include: a $1,700 donation to the Leigh VanderEls Defense Fund; financing the
Casselberry-Dupree concert; the 1988 Spring AIDS Action!.Pride Prom '88; staffing
the VOICE '88 benefit which raised over $10,000.00 to pay for lesbian and gay
visibility during the Democratic National Convention; and our upcoming benefit for
Southern Voice (bringing our financial committment to Southern Voice to over
$ 1,000.00 this year). The AMC meets every 2nd and 4th Tuesday at the Highland
Branch Library at 7:30 p.m. All meetings are open to the public and we welcome new
members at all times. For more info call: 377-8312.
ALFA is a lesbian-feminist organization open to all lesbians. We welcome women
to participate in ALFA-sponsored events. Women involved work on social, political,
educational, cultural, and recreational activities. We are concerned with the entire
spectrum of lesbian-feminist issues, which includes, but is not limited to, the
liberation of women; eliminating discrimination based on sexual orientation; ending
racial, anti-Semitic, and economic oppression; eliminating nuclear weapons and
reducing the threat of war; creating a positive, enabling environment for fat and
differently-abled women and ensuring that the world's living and non-living
resources are used in a responsible manner for the benefit of all, and not exploited for
the profit of a few. ALFA allows a lesbian to meet and get together with other
lesbians who share her interests. We welcome lesbians of all races, religious, political
orientations, economic statuses, occupations, and degrees of openness.
