A Thanks-Giving To All Of You...You're The Best!
Sit back and relax... in line with the season, this is on thanks-giving, which is also, in part, what
the GAPAC fundraising dinner this past November 12th was about
The evening was, in a word, wonderful; and 1 give thanks to all of you who participated.
Support covers so many areas. Most obviously, money is crucial, since it buys the ability to
communicate. But aside from that is the psychological POW!, that comes by just dressing up in
our glad rags.
And how beautiful we were that night no matter what was worn (and it ran the gamut as we
toped). What a thrill to arrive at the top of the escalator going down to the ballroom, and see the
lobby jammed with hundreds of happy gay men and lesbians! And then to proceed into the
candlelit ballroom, flowers gracing each table. The words of welcome; calls to create a greater
community for Atlanta; the hilarity of Doug Lothes’ Scarlett O'Hara and all her friends; the warm,
svelte songs of Suede. The wit of emcee Cathy Woolard (whose humorous editorial comments do
not necessarily reflect GAPAC positions!).
In one of the most satisfying actions of my life to date, I was privileged to present the first
annual GAPAC Impact Award at our dinner. And not just once, but twice, to two winners. This
column is to applaud all those nominated.
First of all, the Impact Award is that rarest of all awards: cash! It goes to nominated
organizations which in the past year have excelled in activities that directly, positively impact the
gay, dcsbian community. And, as the Chairwoman of an organization that daily struggles to match
rragmatic financial reality with laudable goals, it is particularly satisfying to me to be able to
Jublicly applaud, and contribute to, local organizations that literally do "do so much with so little
