Kirk Edington Bruce
Kirk Edington Bruce, a graphic artist and
painter, died December 28, 1989, at the age
of twenty-eight.
An Atlanta native, Kirk was a graduate of
the Atlanta College of Art. It was during his
student years that Kirk formed many lasting
friendships. Kirk entertained and enlightened
us with his quick wit and sharp insight. He
was, among other things, an avid collector of
a fascinating array of images dealing with
fine art, advertising, and the print media. He
possessed a keen and discerning eye for clean
lines and beautiful objects.
Kirk created many memorable images in
advertisements for Weekends, Club Rio,
Occasion and numerous other businesses and
publications. While continuing to paint and
draw, Kirk increasingly began integrating his
"found object" sensibility into his art through
clever manipulation of the "image" as
enhanced by the computer.
Kirk left with all his family and friends a
beautiful legacy of his work and in his teach
ing us to dare to be true to who we are. He
also taught us courage and dignity in the face
of death.
We will love you always.

April Will Feature Gay Carnival
to Benefit 1990’s Gay Games
by Matt Montgomery
The Southeastern Sports Alliance
(S.E.S.A.) is planning a two-day festival to
benefit gay organizations, businesses and indi
viduals in the Atlanta area.
Planned for Saturday and Sunday, April 28
and 29, "Ga-le-bration" is designed to raise
money for participating gay organizations. As
the host organization, S.E.S.A. hopes to gain
support and funds for the Gay Games '90
Southeastern athletes.
The celebration will feature a carnival with
concessions, games, entertainment and booths
sponsored by local gay groups. Retail busi
nesses will have stands to display their prod
ucts and restaurants will offer food.
Areas for vendors will consist of an arts
and crafts section for local artists, photogra
phers and craftsmen as well as booths for civic
groups to raise funds to benefit and promote
their cause.
Organizations which have expressed inter
est in participating in the festival include the
Hotlanta Volleyball Association, Atlanta
Team Tennis, Friends Atlanta Fourth
Tuesday, Atlanta Venture Sports, and Project
Open Hand.
Deana's One Mo' Time is one of the local
businesses which has pledged support to the
event by hosting a Gay Games fundraiser on
April 22. Deana's plans to offer a "games"
drink as part of their celebration.
In order to promote excitement for the car
nival, the organizing committee plans to have
a "bar raid" at area bars on Friday, April 27 to
inform the gay community about the festival.
Highlights of the carnival will include day
time festivities with evening dances and enter
tainment. The organizers are optimistic about
the plans.
"Once the gay community hears about it,
they will respond with positive support," said
Tim Mills, Chairman of the executive steering
committee.
Mills who feels that the event will become
an annual celebration said that he expects a
showing of the region and not just local sup
port.
A planning meeting will be at the
Peachtree branch library on Tuesday,
February 1 to discuss the logistics of the car
nival. Interested businesses, artists, entertain
ers, and volunteers should contact Tim Mills
at (404) 874-6102 or Larry Lucas at (404)
