assault everyone equally. As one says halfway through
the show: "We hope you feel a little uncomfortable—
that's the way we like it!"
The show demonstrates that it is possible to laugh
and think at the same time. They call their concept:
"Comedy at large, pathos thinly veiled." It’s a rollick
ing revue written not just to entertain, but to set a few
records straight.
Performances will be held at The Theatrical Outfit,
1012 Peachtree Street, Friday, March 23rd at 8:00 PM
and Saturday, March 24th at 8:00 and 10:00 PM.
Cost of admission is $101$8 for Nexus members. Call

Galloway Goes in Style
Leaping from the ledge with all
politeness in tact
SAME and Seven Stages are co-producing a series
of special plays and readings during the month of
March for "Voices of Dissent," a national celebration of
change-oriented art. Among the presentations will be
Rebecca Ranson's plays The Incarceration of Annie and
Jesse's Time. Of special interest to Voice readers will
be performances by Terry Galloway, a hearing-
impaired lesbian from Tallahassee.
Ms. Galloway's one-woman show, "Out All Night
and Lost My Shoes," consists mostly of vignettes from
her life and she has certainly led an interesting one. It
is an extraordinary autobiography scarred and saved by
her bouts with art and insanity.
The play skips from poetry reading to stand-up com
edy with brutal honesty and a wonderfully macabre
sense of humor. It covers such diverse subjects as
Beatrice Queral
Twirl those pearls; Galloway does her hilarious
take on quintessentially pristine Amy Vanderbilt
Berlin; detectives in drag; ventriloquism for sado-
masochists; snakes; crocodiles; Texas; and the little
known fact that shoes are ever so civilizing while feet
are not.
In one scene (see photo), Galloway mimics Amy
Vanderbilt, the etiquette expert who killed herself.
Terry's Amy tells us how to jump off that ledge with all
politeness in tact, at what hour it is proper to use the
oven ala Sylvia Plath (between 10 and 4—less kitchen
traffic), and how to properly compose your very own
suicide note.
Although Terry lost her hearing during the first 12
years of her life, it has not handicapped her as an artist.
She is possessed of a lyrical voice that soars and rum
bles. And while her subject matter is often serious, there
is always humor to break the gravity.
"Out All Night" will be performed at Seven Stages
Back Door Theater March 15, 16, and 17 at 8:00 PM
and March 18 at 5:00 PM. Admission is $10. Call
523-7647 for reservations, 584-2104 for more infor
mation.
DeDe Performs Solo
Performance is a benefit for E Congregation
Singer/songwriter and multi-instrumentalist DeDe Vogt
will make a rare solo appearance Friday, March 23d at
8:30pm at the the First Existentialist Congregation. Tickets
are $5 and will be on sale at the door. Part of the proceeds
from the performance will benefit the E Congregation.
The performance, featuring her rich voice and imaginative
lyrics, will include a mixture of old favorites and some new
compositions. DeDe has been a fixture in the Atlanta music
scene for 15 years when she and Cass Kennedy first played
together as "Rose." She teamed up with Fonda Feingold and
Caroline Aiken for a while and blew the roof off of such
places as the
Harvest Moon
Saloon as
"Pretty Good
For Girls." And
everybody
knows about the
"Fabulous
Scallion Sisters"
and intimate
nights at the
L5P Pub with
DeDe, Cindy
Diamond, Ann
MacDonald,
and the rest of the Sisters. DeDe played bass on several cuts
of the Indigo Girls first album.
DeDe has her own cassette release now, a self-produced
collection of solo works, "Goliath Dreaming" on Hetzel
Records; it will soon be available on CD.
Simone and Holly Crenshaw will make guest appearances.
Simone is known for her great smile and creative drum work
with "Boink Dee Deek", "Kristen Hall and O.K. Fine" and
other local bands. Shy and unassuming, Crenshaw is a blue-
grass guitar picker of incredible talent
Whether you are a music fan, or one of many Vogt
groupies, this is an evening you don't want to miss.
