Homo Homer?: Can you stand it! The Oct. 18
episode of The Simpsons (8pm on Channel 36) will
feature actor/playwright Harvey Fierstein as the voice
of Homer Simpson's new (male) secretary. Said secre
tary it seems has a crush on Homer, who according to
pre-show publicity, has to struggle with his own feel
ings for hunky Harvey's character.
Dodo Wyche: Not Fowler (although Dish does have
some worries about our Junior Senator, too) but Sam
Wyche, coach of the Cincinnati Bengals. Those who
don't read the sports section or watch the tube may not
know that the aforementioned Mr. W. forbade USA
Today reporter Denise Tom access to his team's lock
er room after the Seattle Seahawks had whooped the
tar out of the Bengals. Ever solicitous Wyche said, "I
will not allow a woman to walk in on 50 naked men."
Football commissioner Paul Tagliabue replied with a
fine of 1/17 of Sam's annual salary; that's rumored to
be about $30,000—the fine, not the salary. That
means that slimy Sam makes about $1.8 million per
anum. Dish wonders how much USA Today has to
pay Ms.Tom to stand around and interview 50 sweaty
jocks in the buff. Not $1.8 mil, and not enough, we'll
bet.
Change Alert: Gay publishing rumor became gay
and lesbian publishing fact with the October 9 edition
of The Advocate. Nothing major, just the addition of
the "L" word. In an editorial—entitled "To be gay in
this decade, one must also be lesbian— in that same
issue, Editor-in-Chief Richard Rowland recalls a

cocktail party scene: Two very well placed lesbians lis
tened to his musings: "... What should lesbians expect
from gay men?" Their response lead to the Advocate's
editorial repositioning. "Understanding seeks a sharing
of emotions and values. This is the psychopolitical arena
of the new Advocate.. .which will become a clearing
house for sharing information between men and
women." Dish suggests a lesbian construction contractor
for this new house since The Advocate can't seem to
locate any lesbians to employ. Lesbians, send your
resumes to Mr. Rowland at 6922 Hollywood Blvd., 10th
Floor, Los Angeles, CA 90028. Keep an eye on the
New York Times this week for more info on changes in
lesbian and gay publishing.
Coming Out Congrats: The National Coming Out
Day folks were successful in raising enough $$$ to pay
for an ad that will cover about 60% of a full page in the
October 11 issue of the Atlanta Journal and
Constitution. Good work, team.
Cause and Effect?: A couple of weeks ago Dish's
most favorite national organization, the Gay and
Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation, sent a very slick
"Media Guide to the Lesbian and Gay Community" out
to 1500 radio, TV and print editors around the country.
Two weeks ago the Atlanta JIC ran a headline story
about two gay men suing Continental Airlines (see
page 2). A week after that the Constitution ran an edi
torial supporting legalization of same-sex marriages or
domestic partnerships. Thanks GLAAD. We think the
Constitution's line of reasoning—legalize our relation
ships to avoid problems for courts and corporations,
not because its right—is a little bent, but we appreciate
the support. A GLAAD chapter is forming here in
Atlanta; see the classifieds in this issue for details.
Schizo Esquire: Last year (or was it the one before?)
Esquire magazine ran several articles that made it look
like the well entrenched heterosexism of that journal
was on the wane. Then came the July and August
issues with nasty homophobic rantings from Edward
Hoagland and Pete Hamill. Follow that, in September,
with the inclusion of "lipstick lesbians" on the "Ahead"
portion of the trendy mag's latest variation of those tire
some What's In, What's Out lists. Esquire's publisher is
W. Randall Jones. Write him at 1790 Broadway, NY,
NY and tell him to get a grip. Suggest that he publish
some openly gay/lesbian writers while you're at it.

The New Moon comes on Thursday, Oct. 18, beginning a 28 day cycle of activity, good for starting projects and new activities. Energetic Mars goes retrograde on Oct. 20 until Jan. 1.
ARIES-The Sun, Mercury, and Venus are
all in your 7th house of personal relation
ships, so pay close attention
to any new people entering
your life. Catch up with old
friends and let those special
people know you love them.
TAURUS-Now that Saturn, Uranus, and
Neptune are moving direct, you may find it
easier to get things done;
obstacles may seem to van
ish, but continue to plan for
the unexpected and remem
ber you are in a learning
J cycle until 1991.
GEMINI-Mars, in your 1st house of self
and identity, goes into apparent retrograde
motion on October 20, indi
cating a time to reflect on
your use of assertive, aggres
sive and physical energy.
Also good time for a medical
check-up.
CANCER-With the Sun, Mercury and
Venus in your 4th house of home, family,
and parents, you may have
relatives calling or coming to
visit. You may feel like re
decorating your living space,
particularly the kitchen.
LEO-With Jupiter in your 1st house and
Pluto in your 4th house of home and family
in close aspect to each other,
you may need to resolve
conflict at home or with par
ents. Be patient with any
melodramatic outbursts.
VIRGO-With the $un, Mercury and
Venus in your 2nd house of income, mate
rial possessions, and person
al comfort, you may want to
reassess your budget, savings
and investments, especially
if you are considering a
major purchase.
LIBRA-Happy B-day! Have a wonderful
time celebrating with friends and family.
If you go shopping for your
self, be as specific as possi
ble about what you need and
want so you won't spend
beyond your comfort zone.
SCORPIO-Jupiter is in your 10th house
of career and vocation, possibly indicating
some stress and tension in
that area. Try to resolve any
conflict with others in a calm
way and keep your sense of
humor in tense situations.
SAGITTARIUS-Mars in your 7th house
of personal and committed relationships
could indicate a need to
express your physical energy
in games or other sports.
Also be up-front with any
anger or irritation towards
others.
CAPRICORN-The Sun, Mercury and
Venus are emphasizing your 10th house of
career and status in your
community. A good time to
think about a promotion or
consider political involve
ment, if you are interested.
AQUARIUS-It may be time for you to
retreat a little from the hectic outside world
and devote time and energy
to your own creative expres
sion. Mars goes retrograde
in your 5th house if creativi
ty, providing energy and
insight.
PISCES-Mars is moving through your 4th
house of home, family, and parents, so you
now have the energy for
clean-up projects around the
house, but be alert for explo
sive situations with parents
or anyone living with you.
