! In the booklet it is claimed that there
cannot be a Jewish majority in Pal
estine for at least several generations,
even if all the three factors in the
situation—the attitude of Arabs and

I most fovorable.

up the question of whether the tradi
tional Jewish divorce laws shall be
fundamentally reformed so as to give
women the same rights as men.
MRS. LOUIS RICHARDS of Sa n
Jose, Cal., the first president of the
Jewish Women’s Welfare Organiza
tion, was the guest of honor at a
luncheon celebrating the 27th anni
versary of the organization. This
organization was the pioneer Jewish
social work organization, and its ac
tivities now include aiding in profes
sion service.
HARRY SACHER, chairman of the
Palestine Zionist Executive, left Pal
estine for London in order to see Dr.
Chaim Weismann, president of the
World Zionist Organization before
the latter departs for New York. Mr.
Sacher took over the Zionist’s Organ
ization’s political department three
months ago, and it is probable that
he will not return to the position.
PRIME MINISTER RAMSAY Mac
DONALD of Great Britain, remem
bering his old Jewish friend and great
socialist leader, Edward Bernstein
whose birthday was celebrated re
cently, sent him a telegram of con
gratulation, declaring: “I hope that

GENERAL JAN CHRISTIAN
SMUTS, former Premier of South
Africa, in response to an address pre
sented him by a delegation of ledaing
Zionists of New England, asserted:
‘‘I wish to assure you I have not
changed one iota or one jot as to my
opinion on the Jewish National Home
in Palestine. Of course, I realize the
difficulties existing between Jews
and Arabs, but as a solution has been
found in the past, so I am sure a
solution will be found again in the

COUNT MICHAEL KAROLYI,
first president of Hungary, arrived in
this country for a stay of two months
to lecture on ‘‘Fascism in Europe."

Europe. Count Karolyi was of the
opinion that the present Fascist
government in Hungary is to blame
for the wave of anti-Semitism that
prevails there now, and declared that
there is no hope for the amelioration
of the situation of Hungarian Jews as
long as the present government re

DR. HENRY ENGLANDER, Reg
istrar of the Hebrew Union Colege
in Cincinnati, resigned in order to
devote his time to study and teach
ing as a member of the institution’s
faculty. I)r. Englander is professor of
Mediaeval Jewish Exagesis at the col
lege, and was president of the He
brew Union Colege Alumni Associa
tion from 1920 to 1922.
MORTIMER M. MENKEN, honor
ary secretary of the Union of Ortho

ica, died recently after a prolonged
illness in New York City. For twenty-
