A VICIOUS REPORT
(Continued From Page 3)
™ s is utterly absurd. Does
Mr. \\ .Ison not know that the Yiddish
and Jewish newspapers are divided be
tween the Democratic and Republican
camps just like the general American
press Has Mr. Wilson really forgot
ten that such public leaders as the late
Louis Marshall. Felix M. Warburg
Otto H. Kahn, Julius Rosenwald, Her
man Bernstein and a legion of others
were among the most vociferous cheer
leaders of the “elect Hoover” cry?
Does Mr. Wilson wish to insinuate that
because Rabbi Stephen S. Wise, who
in national politics has always sided
with the Democrats, gave his support
to the Smith campaign, he, of all in
dividualists and liberal leaders, tried to
create a racial vote? Arthur Brisbane,
after reading Mr. Wilson’s report,
commented: "Vicious discussions and
hatred that have no place in American
politics or American life will be the
outcome of this report.” And Mr.
Brisbane is, unfortunately, only too
right. But one cannot ignore the igno
minious insinuations of the Methodist
“moralist.” For the sake of public
morals it is necessary to crush the
legend of a Jewish vote wherever it
is conjured tip, even if the magician
happens to be an official moralist.

B nai B nth Sends Protest to
Sir Ronald Lindsay
I be B nai B rith has entered a for
mal protest with Sir Ronald Lindsay,
British Ambassador at Washington,
against the suspension of Jewish immi
gration to Palestine. In a telegram,
Alfred M. Cohen, international presi
dent of the Order, said as follows:
1 he B’nai B’rith, international fra
ternity of Jews with 80.000 members
in twenty-five countries, has learned
with keenest regret of the order sus
pending Jewish immigration to Pales
tine issued by the High Commissioner.
"Jews the world over, in reliance on
Balfour Declaration and the proverbial
good faith of His Majesty’s govern
ment. have literally poured their money,
their energy and their enthusiasm into
the undertaking of rebuilding the ruins
of their cradle land and of reclaiming
its waste places.
"It has been their conviction that
Jews were being encouraged to enter
Palestine of right and not on suffer
ance. What adds to our deep concern
is the knowledge that the action of
the High Commissioner was not
prompted by economic needs.
"We therefore respectfully urge upon
bis Majesty’s Government a removal
of the misgivings of world Jewry cre
ated by the dissemination of the order
through an early suspension of it. and
the reopening of the gates of Pales
tine to those who seek entrance
thereto.

her of those arrested have already been
indicted, and long jail sentences await
them. It is believed that sudden police
action—on a matter which has existed
for more than two decades—is due to
the sensational details of the white
slave traffic in Jewish women here
which were revealed by Albert Londres.
noted Paris journalist, who wrote a
book, "The Road to Buenos Aires,”
which declared that Jewish women
were the backbone of the traffic.
5,986 Jews Entered Argen
tina During Last Year
Buenos Aires (JTA).—Jewish immi
grants to the number of 5,98b entered
Argentina during the past year, ac
cording to the report of the local“Jew-
ish Immigrants Protective Society”
which has just been issued; 71 per
cent of all the Jewish immigrants who
arrived last year came from Poland.
The number of immigrants arriving
in Argentina from Poland has during
the past few years increased very heav
ily, as a result of the bad economic
situation in Poland. While during 1925
the general number of immigrants ar
riving from Poland in Argentina was
9,122, the number of immigrants arriv
ing from that country in 1929 was
24.233, according to the report.
Because an economic crisis has lately
made itself felt in Argentina, the
Polish minister in Buenos Aires has
advised the Polish government to cur
tail the emigration to Argentina. But
as a result of the efforts of the local
"Jewish Immigrants Protective So
ciety” an exception was made for Jew
ish emigrants, since it was proven that
these immigrants do not become a bur
den either to the Argentine govern
ment or to the Polish legation.
