ANDRE CITROEN, better known
as the Henry Ford of France, has
equipped an expedition to set out on
a task of exploration that will leave
next year to cover 5,00(3 miles of least-
known Asia from Syria to China. Mr.
Citroen, who has backed many similar
expeditions, is said to have placed a
handsome fortune at the disposal of
the scientists for their archaeological
research.

gation, deplored the lack of co-ordi
nation and co-operation among Jewish
religious and communal organization-
in this country, and called upon tin-
leaders of American Jewery, represent
ing all shades of opinion, to convene
at a national conference for the pur
pose of discussing the present situation
and to plan for united efforts.

RABBI MEIER BERLIN, president
of the Mizrachi, World Zionist group,
and member of the Actions Committee
of the Jewish Agency for Palestine,
recently withdrew his resignation from
the World Zionist Executive and sip
nified his intention to take no further
action on his decision to withdraw un
til the Actions Committee of the Zion
ist Organization meets the latter part
of January. Rabbi Berlin tendered hi-
resignation as a protest against the
method of negotiations being conducted
between Jewish Agency leaders and
the British government.

CARDINAL BERTRAM, chairman
of the bishops’ conference, of Breslau.
Germany, recently issued a manifesto
addressed to German Catholics, remind
ing them that real love for their father-
land means brotherly love for the vari
ous peoples in Germany, as well as an
understanding for the capabilities of
other peoples. The manifesto regretted
that “embittered people running after
leaders who are themselves without
aim are spreading corrupt ideas and
counteracting stabilization work”.

EDGAR C. LEVEY, member of the
state legislature from San Francisco,
was recently re-elected speaker of the
lower house for his third consecutive
term. Mr. Levey is a former president
of District No. 4, B’nai B’rith and a
director of the local Jewish Welfare
Board.

noted English chemist, was recenth
awarded the medal of the Society of
Chemical Industry, one of the world
most coveted scientific honors. He was
honored for his work in the dye stuft
industry. During the late war. Dr
Levinstein was known as a great au
thority on poison gas.
