Hitlerites Overthrown in Thuringia
Berlin—Thuringia, long a sore spot
for German Jews because of the politi
cal dominance in that State of Dr.
Wilhelm Frick, Fascist Minister of the
Interior, swept Dr. Frick out of office
when the Diet passed a motion of mis-
confidence in him. Thuringia was the
only State in Germany which had been
governed by Fascist influence. It was
Frick who had inserted a prayer
against Jews and other “denationaliz
ing” influences in the school children’s
hymnal.
The setback to the Hitlerites in
Thuringia had its repercussions
throughout the country, as a result of
the discussions between factions in the
party, all fighting for control. An in
dication of the declining power of the
Fascists is seen in the discontinuation
of the Berlin edition of the Voelkische
Beobachter, Hitler organ published at
Munich. Not enough copies were sold
in Berlin to justify the expense of pub
lication.
