The activities of the B’nai B’rith,
since its luncheon cluh has been formed,
has made remarkable progress towards
getting its membership together at its
weekly luncheon, held regularly since
its beginning a month ago.
The following men were guests and
speakers at each of the past four meet
ings : Mr. Harold Hirsch, prominent at
torney, spoke on the spiritual feelings
of Judaism; Rabbi Edw. Israels, of Balti
more, spoke on unification of Israel;
Mr M. (i. Michael, of Athens, Ga., sp >kc
on perpetuating and furtli ring of Juda
ism, and Mr. Julian Boehm gave a very
interesting performance on magic.
Rabbi Lazarus Axelrod, formerly of
Atlanta, Ga., has been unanimously
elected to assume the pulpit of Con
gregation Beth Jacob, of Miami Beach,
for the period of one year. Before the
Yizkor service on the last day of Pass-
over. Rabbi Axelrod spoke in conjunc
tion with Rev. /. H. Masliansky, fam
ous Yiddish orator, and made an appeal

sponded readily, and a sum of over
$4,500 was raised for this purpose. Plans

stone of this institution in February,
1932.
Henrietta Szold recently spoke in
Wilmington, N. C., on the rehabilita
tion of Palestine.
Rabbi Gustav Falk recently spoke be
fore an assembly of Jewish women of
North Carolina in Wilmington.
Will Visit Atlanta
Richard E. Gutstadt, director of the
National Bureau of Membership of
B’nai B’rith, an international order of
B’nai B’rith, will speak here Friday,
May Kth, at 12:15 p.m., at the Winecoff
Hotel Luncheon Club.
Mr. Gutstadt’s home, until lie as
sumed his present duties on November
1, 1930, was at San Francisco, Cal.,
where he was active in community as
well as in B’nai B’rith affairs. For two
consecutive years he was campaign di
rector of the National Jewish Welfare
Fund in San Francisco, and he had for
many years been a leading worker in
that city’s community chest campaigns.
From 1924 until he undertook his
present duties, Mr. Gutstadt was execu
tive director of B’nai B’rith District No.
4. and his efforts there helped to make
that district outstanding in the matter
of membership. He is a member of the
B’nai B’rith Wider Scope Committee
and of the National Finance Committee
of that order.
He has served as secretary of the
Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society in San
Francisco, and on the directorate of the
Jewish Committee on Personal Service
in State Institutions.
The Bureau of Membership is newly
the B nai B’rith in America with a view
created to make a scientific study of
to increasing the number of members
and to developing a method for en
hancing their usefulness in Jewish and
civic activities.

Dies
Mr. Abraham Pearlman, of Yald<
Ga.. a leading figure in Jewish actio
ties, passed away in New York
April 15th, having undergone a ti
operation.
Mr. Pearlman was President
Valdosta Hebrew Congregation
seven years. The building of tin <
synagogue in Valdosta, and it» man:
teranee, has been largely due to the
efforts of Mr. Pearlman. UN activitn

Paying a beautiful tribute to the
