in great agitation. He began speaking
of the money that his contract was
costing him, etc., etc. Working him
self up into a state of excitement, he
sort of grabbed the dramatist by the
lapels as lie cried:
“A fine playwright you arel You are
here for two months already and you
haven’t turned out a single good movie
idea. Why did you ever become
famous? You’re terrible!”
Suddenly he stopped his harangue.
His eyes opened with delight as he
fingered, with the touch of a connois

buttonhole. Admiringly—so the story

‘‘Ahl What a beautiful buttonhole!”

destroying a legend is to ridicule it.
Jews—and, for that matter, Gentiles—
should not answer anti-Semitism with
religious tirades, but should simply
laugh it out of court. Less mysticism
and more realism in our intellectual
life will turn the trick. That is why
I believe that the era of science—the
machine era, as some preachers call it

only few people realize that there is
no such thing as a pure race. Tomor

Once this bunk about racialism, Jewish
or Gentile culture, and all this glorifi

as what it is—cocaine to clear think

prejudice, will die. But not before. In
debunking the world the Jews play
an important role.”
As I rose to leave, the international
ly renowned attorney asked: “I didn’t
say anything foolish, did I?”
It then occurred to me that Clarence
