Palestine to enable that body to facilitate
the immigration into Palestine of Jews
from Germany and other Central and
Eastern European countries was launched
at the Hotel Astor at the dinner given in
honor of Nathan Straus, Jr., by the Jew
ish Agency. More than six hundred and
fifty of New York’s notables in business,
politics and the professions were present
to pay tribute to Mr. Straus for his serv

American Palestine Campaign, Or. Ste
phen S. Wise, James Marshall, Abraham

or whose livelihood is jeopardized by
economic discrimination.
Mr. Louis Lipsky, National Chairman

the House Immigration Committee to re
lax present immigration restrictions, Wil
bur Carr, Assistant Secretary of State,
appeared for his department to urge
against the lifting of restrictions. Va
rious speakers at the Committee hearing
made it clear that the anti-Semitic inci

into the United States of Jewish refugees
from the Reich. Mr. Carr declared that

Sauerwein, distinguished French Jour
nalist of Le Temps of Paris. “If the
Jews in Germany did not have jobs
and money, there would be no fanaticism

the opportunity to throw the Jews out
of their jobs and give those jobs to Ger
mans, thereby helping them to fulfill cam
paign promises.”
