Saloniki (WNS)—An attempt by

to find some country that will ad

clis Rhallls, governor of Saloniki,
took prompt measures to forestall
trouble and warned that he would
deal rigorously with rioters. Cir
culars protesting the ship’s pres
ence in the harbor were distribut
ed throughout the city. The leaf
lets demand that the ship be order
ed to leave and denounce the Jew
ish passengers as “Communist ter
rorists.” All of the circulars have
been confiscated by the police, and
Governor Rhallis announced that
the ship could remain in the har
bor as long as it desired, provided
none of its passengers came ashore.
The Jewish passengers on the Ve
los chartered the boat two months
ago at Varna, Bulgaria, and set
said for Istanbul, Turkey. The ship
is Greek-owned but flies the Brit

Turkey, they tried to disembark on
the Greek island of Syra but were
ordered to move on after a 15-day
stay* They they sought ndmission
to Paletsine, but lacking immigra
tion visas they were barred there
too. Now they are living aboard the
Velos. wondering what will happen
when their funds are gone. There
is a possibility, however, that they
will be admitted to Palestine un
der the new quota.
Jerusalem (WNS)—Official an
nouncement is made here that
4,535 Jewish immigrants entered
Palestine during September. Of
(his number. 450 were in the so-

charges of embezzlement preferred
against them by Mr. and Mrs. John

were later inveigled into giving $1,-
700 more in gold which was to be
exchanged for silver when the gov

The Beattys also made a personal
loan to Pelley, who was introduced
to the gullible couple by Kemp and

New York (WNS) — James W.
Gerard, in a letter to the New York
Times, protested against published
reports which quoted him as hav
ing said in an address at East Or
ange, New Jersey, that there are
too many Jews in the Communist
Party. He also tok issue with a
statement Issued by Rabbi Marius
Ranson of Temple Sharey Tefilo.
where the address was made, that
he, Gerard, is a publicity seeker.
Mr. Gerard pointed out that he
had merely remarked that in a
Communist parade on May Day
there had been too many Jews in
the ranks. He also said that despite
Rabbi Ranson's remarks he would
not discontinue his efforts “to bring
before the people of the United
States the horrible treatment of
the Jewish people in Germany or
cease to refer to the dangers of
Communism in this «ountry.”

ranged.
London (WNS)—Enraged at
the decline of Fncist influence
and membership in England, Sir
Oswald Mosley, leader', of the
British black shirts, devoted his
entire speech at an Albert Hall
meeting to the bitterest anti-
Semitic onslaught he has ever
made. Once more denying that
his movement stands for racial
or religious persecution, he re
newed the appeal to his follwoers
to war agains tthe Jews because
they are “fighting Facism and
Britlan.” Warning that “we shall
not fight Germany again in a
Jewish quarrel," Sir Oswald as
serted that “Facists stand for
bringing an end to the system of
international usury by which
Jews live. We will not tolerate
an organized community within
the State which owes its allegi
ance, not to Britian, but to for
eign countries. The Jews have
striven in the last eighteen
months to arouse in this country,
feelings and passions of war
against the nation with whom
this country made peace in 1918.
We say to an alien race that
rises against us to rob us of our
heritage: ‘We take up that chal
lenge and deal with it. They
shall have it’.”

Greek Abolishes
Separate Electoral
College For Jews
Saloniki (WNS) — The separate
electoral college for Jewish voters
in Greece has been abolished by
special decree signed by President
Alexander Zaimls. The effect of
this action is to enable Greek Jews
to participate in elections on a bas
is of complete equality with other
citizens. A bill abolishing the sep
arate electoral college had passed
the lower house of parliament but
was defeated in the senate. The
President gave the law legal stand
ing by his signature. It had the ap
proval of Premier Tsaldarls who is
leading the fight against former
Premier Venizelos’ anti-Semitic ag
itation. the spear-head of which is
a demand for the retention of Jew
ish ghetto voting. Back of Venize-
los’ agitation is the fear that the
Jews will support Tsaldaris in the
coming national qjection.
Nazis And Anti-Nazis
Condemned By Grand
Jury For Irvington Riot
Newark. N. J. (WNS)—Although
no indictments were handed up by
the Essex County grand jury in its
investigation of last May’s Nazi riot
in Irvinton, the grand jury’s report
expressed condemnation of both
Naeis and anti-Nazis. In its pre
sentment to Judge Daniel J. Bren
nan, the grand jury found that the
Nazi meeting was recruited largely
from alien residents*and non-resi
dents, that its participants distrib
uted literature containing “libels of
| a vile nature" and inciting to rac-
; ial discrimination and that the
; presence of uniformed Nazis stimu
lated hostile acts by anti-Nazis. Af
ter this criticism of the Friends of
the New Gwmany, which sponsor
ed the meeting, the grand jury “ut
terly condemned" the violence of
those who broke up the meeting
and declared that all of them
would have been indicted had iden
tification been possible.
‘Black Hitler” Freed
For Lack Of Evidence
New York (WNS)—Rabbi Joshua
L. Goldberg, spiritual leader of the
Astoria Center of Israel, is the new
national secretary of the American
Jewish Congress. He succeeds Os
car Leonard, who resigned. Rabbi
Goldberg is a graduate of the Jew
ish Institute of Religion and has
long b®en identified with the work
of the Congress.
Vienna (WNS)—Notwithstand
ing Chancellor Schuschnigg’s re
newed pledge to the Jewish com
munity that his government
would protect the political and
economic rights of Jews, the
systematic elimination of Jewish
employes and officials in private
and public institutions is con
tinuing without a letup. The most
recent evidence of this is the
dismissal of all Jewish employes
in the Meinel Company, Austria’s
largest tea and coffee establish
ment, which has 400 branches.
Simultaneously thirty Jewish
dentists in the municipal dental
clinics have been ousted.
New York (WNS)—Finding that
“guilt was not proved beyond a rea
sonable doubt.” Magistrate Overton
Harris in Harlem court dismissed
charges of disorderly conduct pre
ferred against Sufi Abdul Hamid,
self-styled "black Hitler" of Har
lem, who has been waging a drive
against Harlem’s Jewish business
men. Harris ordered the charges
dropped after witnesses for the de
fense and the prosecution had tes
tified for three days. A new charge
will be brought against Abdul Ha
mid within the next ten days.
Judge Harris said that he had
"learned that the prosecution has
been a thoughtful one and not a
half-cocked explosion. It has been
well thought out and represents an
organized attempt to put an end to
what the complainant considered
an outrage. If I felt justified by
the evidence, I would have handed
out a severe sentence. I hoped all
along that there would be a disin
terested witness, particularly a po
lice official, who could give me an
unbiased story.”
Bans ‘‘Jew Suess” Be
cause of Demonstrations
Vienna (WNS) — Because anti-
Semitic demonstrations have greet
ed the Vienna showing of the Brit
ish film. Power,” based on Lion
Feuchtwanger’s novel, “Jew Suess,"
the Austrian government has or
dered the picture barred through
out Austria. Austrian film compa
nies are annoyed at this order be
cause it handicaps them in their
efforts to prevail upon the German
propaganda ministry to permit the
showing in Germany of Austrian
films starring Jewish actors. Film
leaders here point out that their
case is hopeless in Germany when
Austria acts the same way.

sengers from Poland. Germany

immigration quota comes into
force. They are hopeful of being
permitted to enter Palestine un
der the new quota.

AN INVASION OF GOODNESS
Atlanta was introduced recent
ly to a new sensation in delight
ful taste—Billy Boy Salted Nuts.
According to Mrs. Daisye I. Mas
sey, who just opened the Billy
Boy Nut Kitchen, located at
Tenth and Peachtree, Billy Boy
nut products has enjoyed a fine
reception here, indicating the
same enthusiasm and quality ap-
preciaton that this popular goodie
has enjoyed in Illinois.
When questioned regarding the
type of nuts Billy Boy favors,
Mrs. Massey relates the following:
“The choicest nuts from the
world’s markets are to be found
in the Billy Boy Kitchens—gold
en almonds with silvery grains of
salt, huge Schley pecans with the
healthiest of tans. Cashew kern
els from far away India, salted
just enough. Pistahios from Syria
bearing the mark of quality—a
lively color of green. Most folks
like peanuts and here is a treat,
for Billy Boy peanuts are so dif
ferent. They have a flavor akin to
almonds, and as one of the many
delighted patrons said: ‘Billy Boy
reveals the hidden flavor of
nuts’.”
Assisting Mrs. Massey in the
management of Billy Boy Nut
Kitchen, is her son, Arthur.
