COMMITTEE RESUMES
PROBE OF NAZI AND
FASCIST ACTIVITIES
Washington, D. C. (WNS)—
The bulk of the $1,500,000 paid
to Dr. F. H. Vollbehr, German
bibliophile, for his rare collection
of incunabula and a valuable copy
of the Gutenberg Bible several
years ago by the Library of Con
gress has been spent in the pro
DECREES EXPLODE RUMORS OF
NAZI CHANGE TOWARD JEWS
Berlin (WNS)—The recurrent
rumors of purported changes for
the better in the Nazi regime’s
anti-Semitic policy are now ex
ploded as wishful thinking or
sheer propaganda by three inci
dents here which further em
phasize the government’s determ
ination to pursue its anti-Jewish
policy relentlessly. The first of
these incidents was the first call
to an anti-Jewish boycott issued
i with the official approval of the
motion and circulation in this
country of anti-Semitic and Nazi Nazi party. This call was issued
propaganda by Dr. Vollbehr, ac
cording to his testimony before
in Speyer, which is the home of
the oldest Jewish community in
the Congressional Committee on Germany. The Speyer proclama-
Un-American Activities, it was re
vealed in abstracts of testimony
he gave in an executive session
of the committee on November
30, in New York. Representative
John W. McCormack, chairman of
the committee, made public the
abstracts just before the commit
tee resumed its public sessions to
hear evidence regarding Com
munistic and Fascist activity in
America. Dr. Vollbehr’s testimony
revealed that Dr. Hans Luther,
German ambassador had warn
ed him to discontinue his ac
tivities designed “to create bet
ter feeling for Germany in the
United States,** and had caution
ed him to “be careful and never
mix in American affairs in Ameri
can politics.” Dr. Vollbehr admit
ted mailing out thousands of cop
ies of anti-Jewish literature as
well as copies of Der Stuermer
to schools, colleges and indivi
duals. In his testimony be
fore the committee, Vollbehr said
that he intended to follow Dr.
Luther’s advice. Representative
McCormack indicated that Dr.
Luther would not be called before
the committee.
tion warns all Germans not to
buy from Jews because “they are
the greatest enemies of Germany
and have caused the worst Ger
man tragedies.” The second in
cident was the issuance of a de
cree by the press bureau of the
Nazi party warning all newspa
pers and publishing houses to dis
miss immediately the remaining
few Jews still in their employ.
This decree will cost several hun
dred Jewish circulation directors,
packers, printers, and lesser ed
itors their jobs.
The third, and most signifi
cant, incident was a violent anti-
Semitic speech made by Julius
Streicher, Nazi overlord of Fran
conia, before a conference of the
German Jurists Association. After
declaring that “if here and there
a Jew has had a bad time we
can have no pity for them, be
cause our people are closer to us
than the Jewish people,” Streicher
announced a new “biological dis
covery” which “proves” that “the
blood corpuscles of Jews are quite
different in form from those of
Nordics. Hitherto the establish
ment of this fact by microscopic
investigation has been deliberately
prevented.” On the basis of this
“discovery” he demanded that
“sexual intercourse between a
Jew and a non-Jewish woman
must be punished by death.” Af
ter hearing Streicher, the confer
ence decided that in the future
all German lawyers having bus
iness abroad must employ only
non-Jews as legal correspondents.
Saar Commissioner
Geoffrey Knox, League High
Commissioner for the Saar Re
gion, last week discussed the
Jewish question in the Soar with
League High Commissioner foi
German Refugees, James G.
McDonald.
Blood Ritual Libel
Alarms Dutch Jews
Amsterdam (WNS) — Dutch
Jewry is greatly alarmed at the
sudden spread of a blood ritual
libel which is being fostered by
Nazi publications and agitators.
The blood libel has spread so fast
that Senator Poliak, Jewish lead
er, has called upon the minister
of the interior to take immediate
steps to prevent its further cir
culation.
Anti-Semitism Grows
In Jugoslavia As Nazi
Refugees Quit Country
Belgrade (WNS) — Jugoslavian
Jewry breathed a sigh of relief
as four hundred Austrian Nazis,
refugees from their homeland
since the abortive putsch of last
July, boarded a steamer on their
way to Germany. During the stay
in Jugloslavia, the Nazi refugees
did everything possible to spread
anti-Semitism is this country.
That their efforts were not in
vain is evidenced by the sudden
anti-Semitic flare-ups which have
occured in Croatia. As a result
of the propaganda spread by the
Nazi refugees, anti-Semitism,
never a problem in Jugoslavia, is
beginning to give the Jewish com
munity cause for worry.
King George Helps Jew
To Remain In Palestine
Warsaw (WNS)—A Polish Jew
by the name of Shedletzki, who
entered Palestine ps an illegal
-^migrant, and who was about
to be deported, has been permit
ted to remain in Palestine because
King George of England person
ally intervened at the request of
Shedletzki’s wife. Informed of her
husband’s plight, Mrs. Shedletzki

f age of the Duke of Kent he ex-
^nd royal clemency to her hus-
nd. Word has now been re

Reich Cancels Citizen
ship of 16,000 Jewish
Refugees In Palestine
Jerusalem (WNS)—The long
arm of the Nazi regime struck at
16,000 German Jews whom it had
exiled, when the German consul
ate-general here officially inform
ed all the German-Jewish refu
gees that their German citizen
ship had been cancelled. This ac
tion means that until they become
Palestinian citizens all of the
German-Jewish refugees resident
in Palestine are men and women
without a country. It is expected
that the Htiler government will
shortly take similar action with
regard to refugees in other coun
tries.

who have already settled in Pal
estine is given by the Jewish
Agency which reveals that Pal
estine Jewry sends a minimum of
$125,000 a month for the sup
port of Jews in Eastern Europe.
