INVENTIONS OF ATLANTA
TRADESMAN PROVES SUCCESS
Tiberias (WNS—Palcor Agency)
—This ancient town teemed with
thousands of visitors, including
delegates from virtually every
Jewish communtiy in Palestine,
who had come to visit the tomb
of Moses Maimonides in celebra
tion of the 800th anniversary of
his birth in Cordova, Spain. A
solemn and yet joyful spirit per
vaded this lakeside town as Jews
gathered to do reverence to the
spirit of Maimonides. The delega-
gatibns of the various groups in
cluded one of the Jewish Agency
headed by Dr. Nahum Sokolow.
The various addresses delivered
in the forenoon outlined the char
acter and works of the philosopher,
and his unparalleled influence on
all Jewish thought since his time.
In the afternoon, a pilgrimage of
thousands went to the tomb of
Maimonides outside the old town,
at which Sokolow read a scroll
dedicated to the remains of the
Rambam. It was later placed
within the grave.
Hillel Foundation to Fete
Many Visitors During
Week-End May 3-4-5
Washington. D. C. (WNS) —
“Tested by the principles upon
which our government and civil
ization rest, Communism, Fascism
.nd Nazism are one and the same,”
Senator William E. Borah declar
ed in a vigorous defense of the
American constitutional rights of
free speech, free press and free
dom of assembly, before the con
vention of the Society of Ameri
can Newspaper Editors. Bitterly
assailing all these isms, Senator
Borah lashed out against legisla
tors, publicists and orators who
would battle these un-American
doctrines by legislative ukases de
signed to curb free speech, free
press, and freedom of assembly.
Denying that the American peo
ple are ready for Communism or
Fascism, Borah said he had “only
commendation for those who op
pose and expose these ancient
tyrannies parading in modern
garb. Let the exposure by un
ceasing and ruthless, but with the
American people we have only to
expose them. We need not fear
the judgement of the American
people after the exposure has tak
en place.” Upholding the tradi
tional American principles of rel
igious freedom, Borah denounced
those who jeopardize American
freedom by curtailing it in an
ostensible effort to defend it
against Fascism, Communism and
Nazism. Borah’s speech is inter
preted here as an attack on Wil
liam Randolph Hearst, Represent
ative Samuel Dickstein and other
so-called patriotic “red-hunters,’
who in their eagerness to root out
Communism and Fascism are em
ploying tactics reminiscent of
Fascism and Communism.
