husband had been invited to join
the First Zionist Convention as a
representative of America.
Upon her return to America in
1920, she joined Hadassah, con
vinced from her experience with
the organization in Palestine that
it was a great instrument for serv
ice. She has been active in de
veloping the organization, holding

Her background is interesting.
Born in Palestine, she was
brought here when a small child
by her parents. Rabbi Haim Hirsh -
enson, her late father, was an out
standing Talmudic scholar. Her
grandparents established two well-
known Yeshivas in the middle of
the nineteenth century — when
Palestine was still under the Tur
kish regime.

Junior Hadassah
AUGUSTA—At the fall reorgan
ization of Junior Hadassah, Fran
ces Popkin was chosen president,
Estel Blum vice president and
Annie Tannenbaum treasurer.
Appointed to aid the administra
tion were Shirley Blum, corre
sponding secretary; Helen Yablon,
recording secretary; Minna Lee
Itubenstein, program chairman;
Estel Daitch, social and member
ship chairman, Mildred Daitch,
J. N. F., and Julie Barchan, pub
licity.
Advisors are Mrs. Aron Shapiro
and Miss Ida Fogel. Junior Ha
dassah has arranged to have two
representatives to assist Mrs. I.
Shapiro and the Midgets, the latter
of which include girls from five to
ten years old.
A carnival in February and a
recent talk by Maurice Steinberg
on “World Affairs,” are typical of
the entertainment planned by the
chapter which is sending delegates
to Savannah.
Mi's. Abe Dechovitz, of Miami,
active in the Jewish Forband for
many years, was a recent visitor
to Atlanta, her former home.
Mrs. Dechovitz has held several
offices with the organization in
Florida since making her home in
that state. She was secretary of
the Borochoff Forband in Atlanta
where she was among the pioneer
members of that organization.
Donor’s Luncheon at Tenth
Street Center Huge Success
They’re still talking about the
wonderful Donor’s Luncheon given
Tuesday at the new Tenth Street
Center.
Of course, the food was splendid,
but it was the superior entertain
ment—the tableau and the beauti
ful auditorium and all which made
the audience gasp with delight.
Formal Dinner-Dance At
Progressive Club Feb. 12
A formal dinner-dance will be
, held from 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. Wed-
j nesday, February 12, at the new
Progressive Club.
Beating out the tempo for the
dance will be Jan Savitt and Or
chestra. There will also be a floor
show, the entertainment commit
tee has announced.

Jr. Hadassah Conference
Sarah Rice has been selected as
; the official delegate to represent
the Atlanta Unit of Junior Hadas
sah at the three-day convention in
j Savannah this week end.
Miss Rice is vice president of the
unit. Other representatives of the
unit are Sarah Tontak, president,
Esther Gershon and Sarah Lefkoff.

Urge Registration For Hebrew
School Before February 15
A board meeting of the United
Hebrew School will be held at
8 p.m. Thursday, February 13,
when President H. A. Alexander is
expected to be sufficiently recov
ered from a recent operation to
attend.
A report of the recent member
ship campaign will be made by
Oscar Gershon, chairman of the
finance committee, and Joseph
Fox, director, will report on the
activities of the Hebrew School
and outline a plan for moving into
the new center. Rabbi Epstein,
chairman of the Board of Educa
tion, will report on the curri
culum.
So far the registration has
passed the 100-pupil mark, Mr.
Fox states, but there are many
more yet to register and he re-
j quests parents to contact him im
mediately so that new classes can
be formed and there will be no
interruption when the move is
made to the new quarters on Tenth
and Spring Streets.
It is important that registration
be completed before February 15
in order not to postpone classes, he
said. He can be contacted at Main
