Atlanta's Book Week Observance Plans
Numerous Organisations Schedule Literary
Programs During December 8-15
Views Exhibit of Palestinian Books
SIMON HALKIN, Professor of Hebrew Language and Litera
ture at the Jewish Institute of Religion (New York), views part
of its important exhibits of Palestine books published during the
war and post-war period. In the collection assembled by Rabbi I.
Edward Kiev, Librarian, every flel dof belle-lettres an dJcwish
learning is represented. Among the books are Prof. Balkin's recent
publications, “Ad JWastaber,” a novel on American Jewish life, and
“A1 Hai” (On the Island), his collected poems published by the
Bialik Foundation of the Jewish Agency.
Law Fraternity Sets Date for National Victory
Convention in Chicago as December 27-29
Nu Beta Epsilon National Law
Fraternity will hold its National
Victory Convention, the first since
the end of the war, at the Palmer
House, Chicago, Dec. 27, 28 and 29.
It is expected that the largest
turaovt for a national gathering
will attend the business and so
cial sessions. The Chicago Con
vention Committee under the
chairmanship of Martin S. Gordon,
have made plans that will far
surpass any previous conventions.
Delegates and visitors from coast
to coast will be in attendance not
alone to enjoy the many social
activities but to help in the legis
lation which will take care of
the future progress of the fra
ternity.
One of the outstanding affairs
will be a banquet and ball on
Saturday evening, Dec. 28, at
which local and national figures
in .the legal, political and civic
world will be in attendance.
Nu Beta Epsilon was founded
by Barnet Hodes, Corporation
Counsel of Chicago, while he was
a student at Northwestern Uni
versity in 1918. Since then chap
ters have been organized at Uni
versity of Newark, Temple Uni
versity, U. of Pennsylvania, U. of
Maryland, Baltimore Law School,
George Washington University,
Georgetown Law School, National
Law School, Mercer-Beasely Law
School, Atlanta Law School, Em
ory University. John Marshal Law
School, Chlrago-Kent College of
Law, DePaul University, U. of
Chicago, Loyola U. of Chicago, U.

California. Chapters are now in
the making at the U. of Miami,

liance on the subject, “The En
richment of a Folkway Through
Yiddish Literature.”
A review of Pierre Van Paas-
sen’s “Earth Could Be Fair” will
be presented by Mrs. Max Berger
at a meeting of the Senior Had-
dassah at the Progressive Club on
Tuesday, Dec. 10. The public is
invited.
On Monday, Dec. 16, Louis
Schwartzman, Executive Director
of the Atlanta Bureau of Jewish
Education, will speak before the
open Board Meeting of the Coun
cil of Jewish Women.
A program is being planned by
the Aibeiter Ring for presentation
next week.
B’nai B'rith's contribution will
be in the form of a radio program
on Monday, Dec. 6, at 7:15 p m.,
over station WATL. Appearing on
this program will be Louis
Schwartzman, Gus Jacobson, sec

Jewish Welfare Board, and John
A. Griffin, Assistant to the Presi
dent and Associate Professor of
Journalism at Emory University.

WASHINGTON (JTA) — The
Arabs are unlikely to turn to
Soviet Russia for aid in their
fight against the establishment
of a Jewish state in Palestine, the
Foreign Policy association says
in a report on the Arab League,

published this week.
