From where I sit... Joe Marsh
I Won't Let Our Town
Be Slandered!
Pvt a lot of civic pride! I like oar
town like you liko yours! I respect
its housewives, f srmers, merchants,
children. I can’t see them pushed
around, insulted!
And when somebody talks Pro
hibition to us, it's like a slap in tho
face to every law abiding citizen
and business in the community!
It’s telling us we haven’t got tho
character or law enforcement agen
cies to see that beer, yes, even a
moderate beverage like beer, is sold
in legal, decent places, open to in
spection!
It’s telling us we’ve got to sub
mit, for our own good!—to bootleg
boose and hip-flask drinking, gang
sterism, juvenile delinquency—and
all the other evils you see today in
so called “dry” counties!
From where I sit, s*y group that
tries to impose these evils on a
town—and claims they’re an im
provement over conditions as they
arc—is being downright slanderous
to the community!

Studying Aftermath
Of Jassy Massacre
BUCHAREST (JTA)—The mil
itary commission which is in
vestigating the pogrom at Jassy
in 1941 in which thousands of
Rumanian Jews were slaught- I
ered, has completed its on-the-
spot inquiry and is now sifting I
the facts in the subsequent mur- i
der of 80 per cent of the survivors
of the Jassy incident.
The Commission established
that some 5,000 men, women
and children were packed into
two freight trains and kept there
for six days during which more j
than 4,000 perished from suffo
cation and lack of food, water
and medical care. The commis- j
sion is now tracing the route of
the death trains, and numerous
bodies have been exhumed from •
shallow common graves where I
they were buried after being j
hurled off the trains.
In Mircesti, Moldavia, 468
bodies have been buried in a
common mausoleum, bearing
the simple inscription: “Here
lie 468 Jews massacred June 22,
1941.” At the town of Romani 8
four bodies were recently un- j *
covered and reAnt Jt f d in a J
ceremony attended by ihe entire ' *
Jewish community, local offi- J y
cials and the commander of the j V
local garrison.
