Delayed in Transit,
Stork Reaches Home
Of Alfred Weinstein
The stork arrived early Thurs
day, Feb. 10, at the home of Dr.
and Mrs. Alfred A. Weinstein.
The family bird, unable to enter
via the chimney since the author’s
modern home has none of these
accouterments, rang the doorbell
promptly at 11:30 a. m.
Wheij the well-known author
and communal leader answered
the bell with his wife, they found
the stork had very gently deposit
ed two children—Mack 6 and
Ronnie 5.

Mystery Shrouds Bennies Who’ll Battle
For “B’nai B’rith Oldster” Crown
By AL GREBNESOR
The basketball game between Atlanta’s two lodges for the mythical
crown of ‘‘old men of B’nai B’rith” continues to take jestful shape,
assuming epochal proportions despite the efforts of sponsors to keep
it purely on the intellectual and dignified level.
Thus far, the exact time and place—or players—have not been an

AUTOMOBILES — AND PARTS WHOLESALERS
seemed the favored spot for the
contest.
A serious point developing about
the outcome pressages an enigma
over the reason the elder lodge
challenged the younger group in
the first place.
Suppose Gate City members are
victors, thus disproving the idea
that they are the “oldsters of At
lanta B’nai B’rith.” Would this
not mean in fact that the young-
sers of Atlanta Lodge are the
“oldsters?"
Bob Lipshutz, Atlanta Lodge
president, has properly delegated
formation o fhis group’s team to
Pete Friedman, chairman of the
athletic committee.
Team Manager Friedman re
vealed that the most likely play
ers from the growing roster of the
new lodge will hold their first
practice next Wednesday “under
wraps.” Whether this meant the
practice would be outdoors in
“cold” February, making the
wraps necessary, or merely refer
red to the secrecy of location
against curious rivals, he declined
to elucidate.
All of the Friedman crew are
sand lot amateurs, he said, and
undoubtedly make up in stamina
what Gate City-ers will have in
experience. He was referring to
the rumor that the Gate City ros
ter is replete with one-time All
American courters and relics of
the peerless “JPC" team.
Friedman did offer a profile of
the average member of the squad
—24 years of age, 5 feet 10 Inches
high and weighing 175 pounds
Meanwhile Coach Barney “three
minutes standing forward” Med-
intz was reported scanning the
Gate City application files from
the year one to determine the age
of member*.
He was also overseen stopping a
young member of Atlanta’s Jewish
community—a collegiate football
player—of several seasons back—
on the streets and testing the guy’s
muscles. Presumably this was a
preliminary maneuver to a bid for
a berth on the “Kroloff Kour-
sters.”
These tactics were bitterly crit-
letes who felt team membership
would be determined by seniority
and past service to the order.
Thus, the past presidents would
be the most likely candidates.
On the other hand, Coach Med-
intz could in the final analysis use
the “double or nothing” idea as a
playing yardstick. If the Atlanta
Lodge team averaged 24 years of
age, Gate City players could aver
age 48. If the new lodge players
weighed 175 each—well of course
that would be easy to beat too.
Whether such a formidable lineup
couid win a game or last the first
half is quite another story.
