The Chattanooga appearances
before civic clubs, schools, col
leges and public audiences, was
sponsored by the Adult Educa
tion Council.
William H. Wesson, president
of the Council, said the group
“is in no sense officially repre
senting the Israeli government.
There are here as individual cit
izens. Likewise, the fact that our
world affairs committee is spon
soring this mission is in no way
an official endorsement.”

Here are a couple of vegetable
recipes that are a bit different
and therefore most welcome ac
companiments to almost any meat
or poultry main dish during these
wintry days.
RED CABBAGE & APPLES
3 cups shredded red cabbage
(or coarsley chopped)
3 large tart apples, cored and
diced unpared
2 tablespoon vinegar
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
' t teaspoon salt
4 tablespoons vegetable short
ening or oil
Combine listed ingredients ex
cept shortening, mixing well in
a bowl. Heat shortening or oil
in a heavy frying
pan and turn in
the mixture. Cover
and cook over low
heat for 20 minutes
or till the apple is
tender. Serve with
meat, fish or poul
try. For added color
and flavor, add 3
or 4 tablespoons
currant , jel,ly on
top, just before
serving. Serves 4.

SWEET POTATO-PINEAPPLE
BALLS
2 pounds sweet potatoes, boil
ed, peeled and mashed
Vt cup can ned crushed pine
apple, drained
1 teaspoon grated orange or
lemon rind
3 tablespoons brown sugar or
honey
3 tablespoons fine crumbs or

3 tablespoons melted shortening
4 slices canned pineapple, dip-

NEW YORK, (JTA) — Only
27 per cent of adult Jews in the
United States attend synagogues,
a Gallup poll on church attend
ance in 1955 established. The
proportion of Catholic adults at
tending church is given as 74.
Among Protestants, only 42 per
cent of the adults attend church
services. The average number of
adults attending religious services
in the United States was 49,600,-
000 in 1955, or 49 per cent of
the total adult population.
The highest attendance was
found in smaller cities - those
between 2,500 and 50,000 popu
lation. Women outnumber men
in attendance of services. Per
sons who have had a college ed
ucation go more often to ser
vices than those who have had
only a high school education.

Cook sweet potatoes, washed
but unpared, in enough cold
water to cover, until tender.
Drain, peel and mash while hot.
Add crushed canned pineapple,
grated rind, sweetening, and mix
till well blended. Form into 4
balls anil roll in crumbs or Mat
zo Meal. Heat shortening in a pie
pan and pour off half into a cup.
Dip both sides of the sliced pine
apple in ample flour to cover.
Arrange in the pie plate. Place a
ball of mixture on each, drizzle
melted shortening over tops and
place on the top shelf of pre
heated oven for 15 minutes. Top
each ball with a cherry and slip
under broiler flame for light
browning just before serving.
Serves 4.

With Purim just around the
corner, most of us like to have a
supply of homebaked goodies on
hand, the kind that can be baked
ahead of time and stored in the
freezer or refrigerator. One such
hasty-tasty morsel that can be
mixed in the twinkling of an eye
and baked any cool day is the
following:
FRUITCAKE SUPREME
(flourless, eggless, too!)
I pound pitted dates
1 pound coarsely chopped
mixed nuts
1 pound shredded cocoanut (4
cans, cut with a scissors to
shreds)
1 small bottle marachino cher-
Ties, halved or quartered
Juice from bottled maraschino
cherries
1 large can condensed milk
(sweetened kind)
Combine ingredients in the
order listed. Turn this into a loaf
pan that has been lined with alu
minum foil, or use pound coffee
tins well greased and floured or
aluminum lined. Bake 1 hour at

Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Weinberg
announce the birth of a son on

Hotel. The honor guests had just
returned from their honeymoon

cently in Atlanta.

fered two scholarships for worthy
