Seek to Form
Liberal Group
Is there a need for a “young
vibrant liberal and progressive
group within the Jewish com
munity of Atlanta?”,
Harris Jacobs, an attorney:
Irving Gordon, an optician, ana
Albert Gross, business agent for
the International Ladies Garment
Workers Union, think so and
they are attempting to organize
such a group for the Workmen’s
Circle.
They invite persons between
the ages of 21 and 35 male or
female, married or single, to
contact them for details.
In their announcement, they
assert:
“This young liberal group is
eager to encourage liberal views
and tendencies, to advance, dis
cuss and promulgate on a cul
tural level the near forgotten
theories of the Roosevelt New
Deal, the Truman New Deal and
the Stevensonian brand of de
mocracy. We feel there is a
void within our community for
liberal and progressive expres
sion, that reaction has set in and
kept the voice of liberals in
hibernation too long. This young
group of liberals within the
Workmen’s Circle are appealing
to all who are looking once
again for a place to express
their inherited liberal views, dis
cuss with someone intelligently
and unashamedly problems that
confront us as Jews, Americans,
consumers, parents and citizens
of Atlanta, and to take stands
and act according to our inher
ent liberal and progressive and
forward judgments and deci
sions."
Mr. Jacobs can be contacted
at 596 Montgomery Ferry Dr.,
N.E., JA. 2-4280, Mr. Gross at
20 Standish Avenue, N. W., or
JA. 2-7696.
