THE SOUTHERN ISRAELITE
Atlanta Center Drive Approaches Halfway Mark
AJCC DEVELOPMENT FUND CAMPAIGN SCENES
Balls
Well pardner ya can’t cut the
wire any thinner and ya can’t
net any closer to the end than
we now have at the AJ.C.C.
Men’s Softball League. This
year’s league has been the
closest, hottest and most hard
fought games that we have seen
in many a year. This past Sunday
we saw the playoffs for the
champs of the first half as it was
an elimination game where we
saw a double header and the
Adlers Battlers come out on
top.
It all started in the morning
where we saw the Adlers Bat
tlers trounce the Silvermen by
the score of 16-6. In this game
there were a host of outstanding
players. The Battlers with great
pitching by Jerry “Sober” Sobel-
son (who by the way won both
games for the Battlers) and
strong Hitting by “Hesh” Adler,
“Soapy” Maziar, “Roberto” Pall
or, Abe “L. L.” Golub, and
homers by “Stan the Man” Sil
verman and great field plays by
Mat and "Meschor” Robbins (no
kin). And queer catches but
great by “Legs*’ Stine. The Men
from Silver-men hung by the
cleat straps for another year and
outstanding plays for them were
had by the captain “Marv Wally
Butts” Silverman.
Freddy “Stogie” Ber.amy, Gary
"Short by heavy” Leff, Norm
"Lebs” Lebedin,” “Pedro” (who
has hung his straps up at least
for another year) Morris, “Topi-
ea” Attinson and Stan “Firebug”
Firestone who is the best slider
in the league, and Doe “Dee”
Cohen.
On diamond two we saw the
men from Weiss's Mices chew
away at their brothers the Fields
Rats by beating them 9-6. This
gave the Mices the chance to
lose or should I say play the
Adlers Battlers for the first half
championship. The game also
was a good one but the men
from the Fields Rats stated they
had it in the bag and therefore
did not give it all they had,
anyway the mices beat them and
the capt. Sey Weiss who hit the
ball to any field, did not get to
be in the playoff but went down
like a great captain should. Don
“Peanuts” Diamond, Bobby
“Yes” Ney, “Moose” Miller,
“Husky” Hirsch were great men
with the bats while in the field.
“Meats” Goodman, Randy “Real-
ing” Feinberg all had a hand in
making it a great season. For the
Fields Rats "Votin for Slotin”
Jacobs, George “gettin’ Mar
ried’’ Enteen, “Ruby Rubinson,
“Choo Choo” Joffre, Stan “The
Man’ Flamm, “Gabby” Rai
ser, were hot men in the field
and the big sticks were “Sambo”
Siegel, “Hustler” Halpem and
“Returnie” Solomon.
Well, anyway the big play for
the championship of the Mens
AJCC Gold Cap (Gold Cup??)
wfll take place next Sunday at
9:50 at the Center ball pork.
Winners of the first half of the
Adler's Battlers will play the
winners of the second half of
the Fields Rats and the winner
will be the champs for the year
1961. The way the games have
been all year around this should
prove to be a very good game
and all are Invited.
They have added 600 more
seats in the grandstand, so you
all are invited to come. Look for
this game and also for the last
of Bits of Bats A Balls by yours
truly next Sunday Till then,
SHALOM.

At a report meeting held on
Wednesday at the Atlanta Jew

Expressing optimism about the
campaign, Erwin Zaban, general

time project o£ great magnitude.
It can only succeed the way it
should with once in a lifetime
gifts made out of present and
future earnings and out of capi

needs being met by this cam

for the next generation."
They explained that pledges
