As the cycle of seasons
bring us again to Rosh Ha-
shonah, I deem it a high priv-
lege to extend the greetings
of Temple Beth-El to the
members of the Jewish Com
munity of St. Petersburg and
environs, and its best wishes
for a Happy New Year to all.
Every New Year brings the
challenge of new duties and
new opportunities. Our days
are full of promise and full
of menace as mankind gropes
its way toward a new and
better day of social justice,
security and world order. The
message of salvation for man
kind is to be found in our
High Holy Day prayerbook.
“To form a more perfect un
ion to do God’s will with a
perfect heart.” World wide
cooperation of peoples, a
wider application of the sci
ence of health to the blighted
areas where the other half of
mankind lives and a more just
distribution of the goods of
life are the essential life giv
ing remedies to a suffering

and fearful humanity.
On Rosh Hashonah, the
Shofar’s clarion call which
arouses us to the service of
God, bids us also to re-dedi-
cate ourselves to these re
sponsibilities of the present
day, for it lies not in the hand
of Heaven but in the will of
men to make this a better
world and a happier place to
live.
May it be given to every
one of us, each in his own
sphere of service and activity,
to contribute in some meas
ure towards this better world
in the making. May we give
more of ourselves during the
coming year to our religious
and spiritual institutions and
activities, for in them is also
to be found the salvation of
our age.
May the new year be one
of well being, contentment
and peace.
