U.S. and Canada. Included in the
shipment were 100 buffets, 120
tables, 30 bedroom suites and a
quantity of units for assembly.

recent New York Trade Fair. The
association also intends to export
to Europe and West Africa,
where potential markets for Is
rael manufactured furniture have
been discovered.
In order to promote further
sales in the U.S., Israel-joiners
has entered into partnership with
Fabri-Associates Inc. of New
York, who have successfully
sold European imported furniture
on the American market. Mr.
George Hurson, president of
Fabri-Associates, arrived in Is
rael accompanied by H. Luz,
architect, and vice president of
“Design for Business,” who
planned the interior decoration
for Time-Life building. During
their visit in Israel they will ex
plore possibilities of exporting
office furntiture as well from
Israel to the U.S.
SUPERMAKET
Super-Sol Ltd, the first and
largest supermarket chain in Is
rael, traded over the counter at
the New York Stock Exchange,
is now selling above the issue
price of $11. Bid at 13, offered at
15.
NEW INDUSTRIES
The president of the Israel-
America Oil Corporation, Mr.
Yekutiel Federman, announced
the directors’ decision to change
the structure of the organization
as well as its name. It is proposed
to broaden the activities of the
company, now entirely engaged
in oil prospecting, and to convert
it to a general development cor
poration, to be called “Israel-
America Industries.”
Mr. Federman outlined a broad
program of investments for the
new company; establishment of
a IL 3 million textile factory and
a hotel in Arad (30 miles from
Beersheba); a tourist center over
looking Atlit; a housing estate
on the Carmel; and a partcipa-
tion in the development of Ki-
kar Herzliah in Tel Aviv. The
government has agreed in prin
ciple to grant the new company a
long-term development loan of
$3 million for development acti
vities in the Arad and Eilat areas.
OIL PROSPECTING
A group of U.S. investors, all
members of the Fundamentalists'
Church, was recently awarded an
oil-exploration concession in Is
rael. The group, which has put
up a half million dollar guaran
tee, intends to concentrate its ac
tivities on the Carmel and Meg-
gidor ranges, in the northern part
of the country.

The U.S. Agency for Interna
tional Development, operating as
part of the United States State
Department, and the Israel Min
istry of Finance this month con
cluded an agreement for the
utilization of IL.60 million of

Trial of Jewish Poet
in Poland Adjourned
PARIS (JTA) — The Warsaw
trial of Naftali Kahn, well-known
Yiddish poet accused of writing
“calumnies” against the Soviet
Union, which opened in secret
last week in Warsaw, was ad
journed for six weeks pending a
medical examination of the de
fendant, dispatches from Warsaw
reported here Monday.
Kahn was arrested in Poland a
year ago, after coming to War
saw from Russia, and was charg
ed with “libelous propaganda”
against the Soviet Union. Soviet
authorities demanded his extradi
tion, but Poland refused to extra
dite him, ordering him instead to
be tried in a Polish court, since
he is a Polish citizen.

A U.S. industrialist and Israeli
interests are setting up a gravel
quarry in the outskirts of Jeru
salem, which ViO supply the

The enterprise, Jerusalem
Quarries Ltd, represents an in
vestment of $800,000. Half Of the
amount is being put up by Mor
ris L. Schaver, of Detroit, who
already owns a gravel quarry
near Haifa and a marble quarry
in Galilee.
