Adalbert Freedman, an Atlanta
attorney active In Jewish youth
work, has been appointed coun
selor tor the B’nai B’rith Hillel
Foundations’ programs at Emory
University and Georgia Institute
of Technology.
He began the part-time assign
ment with the fall term.
Mr. Freedman v will supervise a
program of religious, cultural and
personal counseling activities for
about 325 Jewish students enroll
ed at both schools.
He is a graduate of Temple
University and received a Master
of Law degree at Atlanta Law
School.
Mr. Freedman was for many
years the Southeastern executive
director of the Southeastern Zion
ist Region. He held a similar post
with the Zionist Council of Amer
ica for nearly ten years .working
closely with leaders throughout
the South in countering Arab
propaganda, much of it anti-Is
rael and anti-Semitic in nature.
The annual drive to “Say Yes
to Hadassah’s Children” will be
kicked-off on October 2 at 10
a. m. at the Atlanta Jewish Com
munity Center. Speaker for the
day will be Mrs. Leo R. Burson,
National Vice-President of Ha
dassah.
This is the beginning of a cam
paign which will culminate on
November 10 and 11 with the
Sixteenth Annual Donor Dinner
and Brunch at the Progressive
Club. Donor Speaker will be Mau
rice Samuel, noted lecturer, nov
elist, and translator. Mr. Sam
uel has been extremely well-re
ceived on previous visits to At
lanta as a provocative and high
ly Informative speaker.
The October 2 Kick-off will be
presided over by Mrs. Charles
Weiner, past Regional President
of Hadassah and presently At
lanta Donor Chairman. The Tel
Chi Players will present a skit,
“The Do’s and Don’ts of Fund-
Raising.” All workers are urged
to attend and receive their kits.

BOSTON (JTA) — The United
States Public Health Service has
granted Brandeis Unive r s i t y
$547,800 toward the construction
of a biochemistry building that
will almost* double the univer
sity’s space for research in that
field, it was announced Monday
by the university.
The grant, which must be
matched by Brandeis, was award
ed under the health research fa
cilities program administered by
the Division of Research Facil
ities and Resources of the Na
tional Institutes of Health. Pro-

institutions with excellent health
research programs and potential”
which are in need of modernized
laboratories and equipment and
additional laboratory space.
Brandeis’ new research build
ing will be constructed adjacent
to and connected with Friedland
Science Building, the present site
of the Biochemistry Department.
Four stories high and some 23,000
square feet of floor space, the
structure will contain the most
modem research laboratories,
special rooms for laboratory an
imals and a number of offices for
the faculty. Construction is ex
pected to begin sometime in Oc
tober.

SENATE MEETING
WASHINGTON, (JTA) —
A Rosh Hashonah prayer, of
fered by Senator Kenneth B.
Keating, New York Republi
can, marked the opening of
the meeting of the Senate on
Rosh Hashonah. Senate Demo
cratic leader Mike Mansfield,
of Montana, expressed appre
ciation for the prayer offered
by Sen. Keating.
“It was most moving and
touching, and I think it was in
the best possible taste,” Sen.
Mansfield said. He expressed
belief that the Senate was in
debted to Sen. Keating for the
prayer voiced in the Senate
Chamber. The House of Repre
sentatives conducted no busi
ness because of the Jewish
holiday.

the 25th World Zionist Congress
in Jerusalem in 1960 and is past
president of the Southern Region
of Hadassah and of the Memphis
Chapter. She has served as chair
man for both the United Jewish
Appeal and Israel Bonds and is
a past president of the Brandeis
Women’s Committee. She was
also one of the organizers of the
Memphis Jewish Community Re
lations Council and is now vice-
president. She is a member of
the League of Women Voters, the
American Association for the
United Nations, and the Public
Affairs Committee of the YWCA
