AJCC Mens’ League
Before we get into the usual
topic of this column, there's an
upcoming event we’d like to tell
you about which is a first at the
Center, and something that
should be made an annual affair.
Sunday nite, April 3rd, the AJCC
is to be the site of the Sports
Award Banquet, at which time
over a hundred trophies and
prizes will be given to players
and coaches participating i n
Center activities.
Chairman Marvin Silverman,
his committee, and Athletic
Directors Harold Poet and
Jerry Weissman have done
an outstanding job in pre
paring a fast moving and in
teresting program for this affair,
and have lined up some great
sports personalities, including
Coach Garland Pinholster of
Oglethorpe, Gerald Sacks of the
Braves, and QB Randy Johnson
of the Falcons. All this, plus a
delicious spaghetti dinner (pre
pared by Marvin at his factory,
so if you taste any furniture
glue you’ll know why) all for the
price of one dollar per month
(1.00), and we’d like to invite
all you parents with your kids
to come and see just how much
we appreciate the coaches who
give so much of their time for
your children.
Things 6tart rolling at T p.m.

rael.'*

Let’s make it a family affair,
OK?. . . And now, for the scores—
High man for the nite was Harris
Silverman, fast becoming known
as Stan Silverman’s shadow di
vided by two, who stepped into
the spotlight with a fancy 233-
586 series.
Stan, by the way, will be iden
tified as Silvermen (plural),
which needs no explanation if
you’ve seen him lately. . . We
would like to congratulate his
daughter Faye who was offered
scholarships to two colleges for
her scholastic achievements—and
along these lines, my “niece"
Judy Held was accepted by
Emory University on the earliest
bid, which is quite an accomplish
ment for quite a girl, if you’ll
allow me to brag a little.
In high singles, large George
Kaufman, the trailer parts prince,
hitched on to an extra size 243
game. . . Oscar Levin popped a
212. . . Expectant daddy Leon
Cohen, waiting on a phone call
at any minute, hurried up his
game by collecting a big 212, and
we hope that Pat will have de
livered by the time this issue hits
the street (or else Leon will hit
the ceiling). . . Seymour Romoff
got off an off-beat 207 .. . Herb
(Rent Man) Selk wrote out a
receipt for an overdue 202 thing.
And just making it with an even
200 game was Howard (Whistler’s
Father) Adler, who is going to
get it one of these nites by
some irate bowler who misses a
pin just as Adler lets go with one
of his blasts—I hope he gets it in
the front teeth—that way he can
whistle without putting his
fingers in his mouth (but know
ing him, he’ll probably have his
foot there)—Howard has an
Indian employee working for
him, by the way, whose name is
Dash Tash, and there’s an inter
esting story here—every couple
of weeks Dash misses his work,
and can be found at Grant Park
just staring at the elephants—
his co-workers now call him
Sabu ... I can’t print what
Howard calls him.
Mr. And Mrs. League
Sorry, but we didn’t get the
scores for this league last week—
however, we don’t think you’ll
miss anything. . . In place of this,
here’s something that should be
of interest to everyone—the
Ahavath Achim Synagogue is
holding one of the most impress
ive art shows ever seen in the
south on April 17 to April 20, at
the Synagogue, so plan to attend
this outstanding event—it will be
well worth your time.
That’s the tenth—see you in the
alley next week.
